Spotlight&Giveaway

Hi Rosanne and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, Logan’s Lady!

Hello, Harlequin Junkie, thanks for the invitation to tell you about my newest book, LOGAN’S LADY, coming from Sourcebooks March 26th!

Please summarize the book for the readers here:

This is my first big single title since finishing my Outlaw Hearts series, and it was difficult for me to tear my heart away from Jake Harkner in that series and give it to a new hero. But as I wrote LOGAN’S LADY, bounty hunter Logan Best came alive and won my heart. He is unschooled and rugged and ruthless and dresses like any gunman who is always on the back of a horse and on the trail – everything the heroine, Lady Elizabeth Baylor is NOT. She is well schooled, dainty and proper, and she dresses like any well-bred woman with a title would dress – always beautiful and mannerly – and yes, everything Logan Best is NOT! The unlikely pairing of these two is a joy to read. Elizabeth comes to America to make investments in the growing West, but she is soon duped by a man who leads her to believe he is her friend and can help her find the right investments. Elizabeth’s trust in this man lands her in jail in Kansas, her clothes covered with the man’s blood … and the man lies dead on a train. Along comes Logan Best. Is this woman a murderer, or someone in dire need of help? Logan soon decides it’s the latter, and Elizabeth hires him to find her fortune in bank notes and jewels, stolen by men who work for the man she killed. A very unlikely pairing begins to blossom into love as hero and heroine travel together through Kansas. The banter between them will make you laugh as you root for these two to end up in each other’s arms!

Please share the opening lines of this book:

You asked for the opening three lines of this book. They don’t involve Elizabeth or Logan. These opening lines portray the reason Elizabeth leaves England with one of her brothers (William) and heads for America – to get away from the oldest, overbearing brother (Lord Jonathan) who has complete control over her and William. Here are the opening lines:

“You have disgraced the family name beyond recovery!”
William Baylor looked away from his brother’s dark, accusing stare, never sure how to deal with the man’s fits of judgmental rage. He licked at his cut, swollen lower lip as he struggled for the right words to explain himself.

(You soon learn that Elizabeth is also in the room. She sticks up for her brother, William, which enrages Jonathan even more and leads to a falling out in the family and to Elizabeth and William running off and boarding a ship to America. William falls overboard in a storm, and the adventure of a lifetime begins for Elizabeth.)

Please share a few Fun facts about this book…

Hmmmm. I guess they would have to be

  • Elizabeth knows next to nothing about survival in the American West.
  • Elizabeth “thinks” she DOES know what she’s doing because she’s been reading “penny dreadfuls” – what were called “dime novels” in America. She believes the usually very WRONG facts in those books and is anxious to meet “real” Indians and outlaws and cowboys. Of course, she gets a rude awakening when she ends up stranded in Kansas and lands in the arms of one Logan Best!
  • Elizabeth is well schooled. Logan is not. The banter this creates over Elizabeth’s use of big words will have you laughing out loud!

If your book was optioned for a movie, what scene would you use for the audition of the main characters and why?

If this book was optioned for a movie, I would choose a scene in the story where Logan and the local sheriff are in a room together at a doctor’s office, where Elizabeth is recovering from the ordeal with the man she killed. She has “ordered” both men to her presence and is sitting on the edge of her bed (cleaned up and looking beautiful and every bit the high-born “Lady” that she is), facing rugged Logan Best, a kind of man she’s never met in her life. She turns to the sheriff and says,

“Now, Sheriff, I need you to verify something for me.”
White scratched at his beard. “What’s that?”
“How well do you know the man sitting beside you – Logan Best?”
Logan turned to White. “I’d like to hear this myself,” he said with a grin.
White gave him a disgruntled look before turning back to Elizabeth. “Good enough to know he can be trusted. I’ve only met him once before, but I’ve heard plenty, and I read men pretty good. I figure he’s as honest as they come. He went after a man who’d robbed one of this town’s citizens and who had beat up on a – pardon me, ma’am – a lady of the night, if you get my meaning.”
“I most certainly do.”
“I also know that Logan Best is one of the best trackers around.”
“And he kills men for money,” Elizabeth stated with a judgmental tone.
“I am in the room, in case you didn’t notice,” Logan reminded them both. “And I’ve never killed a man who didn’t deserve it or who wasn’t wanted – dead or alive.”
Elizabeth glanced at him. “I just need to know you’re a man to be trusted,” she told him. “I want to hire you.” She turned back to the sheriff. “Can he be trusted alone with a woman? I mean, out on the plains where there is no help?”
Again, Logan struggled not to laugh. He glanced at White and could tell the sheriff was also in a bind not to let loose a knee-slapping howl.
“Well now, Ma’am, no man can vouch for another man in that department.”

There are so many other great scenes that could be used for movie snippets, like the danger and adventure depicted when Logan and Elizabeth are approached alone on the prairie by a band of Indians, or the instant viewer knowledge that a great love story has been born when Logan walks to the back of a jail house to find Elizabeth sitting in a cell, bloody and shaking. He walks into the cell and picks her up in his arms and orders the Sheriff to get her some help.

What do you want people to take away from reading this book?

I want them to sigh and think, “What a great love story!” And I want them to see that love can happen between two people from two different worlds. This is one of those least-likely pairings that pulls at the heartstrings.

What are you currently working on? What other releases do you have planned?

I have started a new series set along the Outlaw Trail, and I am currently working on the second book, THE LAWLESS BREED. The first one is finished and is coming in November 2019 – RIDE THE HIGH LONESOME. Just a couple of months before that book (September 2019) my Christmas novella, CHRISTMAS IN PARADISE, will be published in an anthology called LONGING FOR A COWBOY CHRISTMAS. My story is actually a sequel to my full novel, PARADISE VALLEY. There is much more to come!

Thanks for blogging at HJ!

To enter Giveaway: Please complete the Rafflecopter form and Post a comment to this Q: I have a question for my readers. My first Outlaw Trail book, RIDE THE HIGH LONESOME, involves a hero and heroine in their thirties. I love writing about an older couple, but that usually happens in my series books, like OUTLAW HEARTS, because the primary couple ages with each book. However, few romances begin with a couple already a little older and experienced at life and love. I think the mature couple, who know what each wants in a man or woman, brings some real passion and more extreme and erotic lovemaking to the story. What do you think? Would you like to read more books involving more mature couples? Thank you! Keep reading and I’ll keep writing!

I love Rosanne Bittner, I have read everything she’s wtitten many twice. She is the Queen of Historical romance for a reason. She brings true history into her books and mixes it up with the best love stories.
I love books about an older couple, as I get older o can relate to them much better.
Congrats Rosanne on another amazing book. I’d be honored to have a signed copy of Logan’s Lady to add to my Rosanne Bittner collection.

  2. Joyce Welch

Rosanne Bittner is my favorite author, her books are like no other. Every book she has written has a special place in my library. I continue to read them over and over.
Books about older people would be wonderful, I feel they would have a lot more to share about life experiences and love.

  3. Rose Ann Folger

I can go either way as I love Rosanne’s books so I’m never disappointed. I am super excited for Logan’s Lady,
Will miss Jake and Randi but ready for a new hero. I will say I really enjoy the series books of the same family like Jake a Harkner. You feel a part of the story as the entire family grows, struggles, falls in love, and sadly passes away. They seem to live in your heart longer that’s for sure !!

  4. DebbieCharlie

Rosanne Bittner’s books take you to a place where you FEEL you are there…with characters you KNOW and feel them as friends….you truly leave the book and think of them in daily! Bring characters/story line with other couples are a plus. Helps me to relate, and in some cases, probably HELP us. Makes us think of things differently…from others eyes. Love is love, gets better as we age as well! Love Love Love all of Rosanne’s books!

  5. margohoornstra

The whole point being Love Never Dies, definitely means older characters are appropriate. You’re exactly right, the more mature love is wiser and better somehow.

  6. Michelle

MOST DEFINITELY – I seek out books with older/more mature couples in them! Love stories don’t only happen in youthful years, but can happen at any age! 🙂

  7. Debbie

I have read all of Rosanne Bittner’s books. Lawless Love was the beginning! Oh how I LOVE LOVE LOVE all of her books! She has such a talent of writing. You know the characters in her books. When they hurt, you hurt….when they smile, you smile. All of her characters become part of you, and you never forget them! Just as in reading about an older couple. We learn from living our lives. The older we get, the better live should be! I would read ANYTHING Rosanne writes. So very anxious for Logan’s Lady. And ALL of the future books! I have no doubt Rosanne’s character’s will relate to all of us, at any age. But certainly the older we get!

  8. gemiinii90

I absolutely LOVE books involving mature couples. They had time for their personality to really develop, which I love. So I would definitely love more books featuring these super intriguing characters, especially in my historical romance.

  9. melly801

I prefer to read books with more mature hero’s and heroines. I’m 55 and can no longer relate to 20 year olds. I do like the knowledge that comes with age.

  10. Mary Flores

I love older couples as the main characters. Not to take away from young love that can be true but to me, an older couple’s love can be quite extraordinary. Their past experiences and wisdom seem to make their love deeper and more tolerant of insignificant bumps in the road. They appreciate their love and know it won’t be perfect, although with hard work it’ll be perfect for them. As an avid reader, I can honestly say that Mrs. Bittner has been my favorite author for over 30 years. I love each and every book Mrs. Bittner has written and anxiously await all future publications!

  11. Nicole (Nicky) Ortiz

I have read and enjoyed books with older nature couples, so yes
    Thanks for the chance!

  12. Rosie Hoskins

I like an older couple. There’s so much life experiences to give them depth.

  13. sejoc1968

I love a novel that has an older couple! Life experience and prior love interests bring a whole different spin into a romance than that of a younger less experienced couple. I’d love an autographed copy of your new book to add to my keepsake bookshelf! Great blog! I absolutely love all your books!

  14. Anna Nguyen

yes i love seeing older couples who have been through more life experiences it changes the story in a good way

  15. Glenda M

I adore books with older couples! I’m surprised there aren’t more of them since they make it possible for so many different storylines.

  16. Patricia B.

I am glad there are more books featuring older couples. It is interesting seeing a couple get to know each other when the sex isn’t the issue. It is also interesting and a bit more complicated when one of the couple really doesn’t know what is going on. It isn’t expected and gives an author interesting possibilities. When they have both reached an older age and still are not experienced, it can really be interesting.

  17. Lynne Brigman

Love has no she limit. I love reading about a couple falling in love it doesn’t matter to me what age they are. You write about older couples falling in love and I will read it

  18. Martha Lawson

Yes, I like older couples in books! Don’t care to read about the youngsters.

  19. Natalija

I purposefully seek out books with mature characters. I did it when I was in my 20th and I love to read about them now when I’m in my 30th. I could never relate to younger ones, for that reason I don’t read NA and YA.

  20. laurieg72

As I grow older I appreciate stories that showcase older couples finding their HAPPY EVER AFTERS. I’ve noticed many woman marrying later in life or even second time around so yes I do want authors to write about older couples.

  21. Glenda Kinard

I love books with the couple a little older. Logan’s Lady was absolutely phenomenal

  22. isisthe12th

Since I am older, I think it would be very nice to read about a couple my age. Thank you

  23. Rachael

I am in my thirties. I have found that I am now reading books with characters in their late twenties or early thirties. I think it is because you relate more to characters that are similar ages to you
