Today it is my pleasure to Welcome author Jane Ashford to HJ!
Hi Jane and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, Earl’s Well that Ends Well!
Please summarize the book for the readers here:
Earl’s Well That Ends Well is the story of Arthur Shelton, Earl of Macklin. After helping four young noblemen recover from grief and find love, he begins to wonder if the same might be possible for him, after years as a widower. And indeed when he encounters Teresa Alvarez de Granada, a charming Spanish noblewoman, he is immediately entranced.
However, there is no room for earls in the quiet, safe life Teresa has made for herself. The earl might be charming and handsome, but she knows firsthand how dangerous such men can be. But the more determined Teresa is to discourage Arthur, the more entangled they get, and despite all she can do her feelings for him start to feel a lot like love.
Please share your favorite quote from the book:
“Yer naught but a beslubbering dog-hearted flap-dragon,” Tom told one of the group. “And Alf there is a weedy toad-spotted puttock.” He rolled out the final word with obvious relish, as if it had a savory taste.
If your book was optioned for a movie, what scene would you use for the audition of the main characters and why?
The scene I would use for the audition of the main characters takes place at a play, where they have gone to watch a young friend, Tom, perform. The conversation gives the actors a chance to show a layered relationship.
“What do you think of Tom’s performance?” Lord Macklin asked her when the first interval began.
“I think he is in danger of annoying the chief actors by attracting too much attention,” Teresa replied.
“I saw that. Not wise for a newcomer.”
“No.” Jealousy was common in the theater.
“He is rather good though.”
She nodded. “He seems so much at ease on the stage. It’s as if he doesn’t even notice all the people staring at him.”
“Tom has a gift of ease. I’ve often wondered where it can come from, considering his unfortunate childhood. Some inner light that cannot be extinguished, I suppose.”
The man had a brush of the poet, Teresa thought. As well as the looks of a fairytale hero. Those steady blue eyes urged one to drop into them and forget all else. What was that English word? Blandishments. Yes. That’s what they were. Seductive blandishments. They promised honesty and understanding and warmth. As if eyes could not lie. Dangerous. She turned away. “That is a good way of putting it,” she said.

How to help a lonely Earl…
Arthur Shelton, Earl of Macklin, has helped four young noblemen recover from grief and find love, but he’s learned to live his own life as a widower. Yet when he returns home after traveling, his estate feels too empty, and he quickly heads to London. There, he encounters Teresa Alvarez de Granada, a charming Spanish noblewoman and is immediately entranced.
There is no room for earls in the quiet, safe life Teresa has finally found for herself. The earl might be charming and handsome, but she knows firsthand how dangerous attraction can be. But the more determined Teresa is to discourage Arthur, the more entangled they get, and it’s only a matter of time before her respect for him starts to feel a lot like love.

I’m pretty shy so I would probably not want to make a spectacle of myself in public. This is a private, personal ,momentous moment so
i would want to keep it dignified.
