In Christmas at the Tycoon’s Command by Jennifer Hayward, Chloe Russo is determined to do her best to run her family’s company, but working alongside Nico di Fiore might just break her, especially since he broke her heart years ago. Yet, as she struggles to contain her feelings once again, she’s determined to flourish in her new role, starting with her Christmas launch plan. Will her launch plan succeed and win over Nico, or will their second chance at happy ever after never happen?

He set his gaze on Chloe’s. “You know you can trust me. Have I ever broken a promise to you?”
“Yes,” she whipped back, fire in her eyes. “The one where you promised to be there for me and then you weren’t.”

What do readers get when Ms. Hayward pens a Christmas story combined with a second chance romance? Readers get a wonderfully-crafted and very entertaining story that encompasses plenty of tension between the main characters and vivid emotion that I could feel along with the hero and heroine, as they fight their intense chemistry until they ultimately give into it. The way this story started had me sympathizing with the heroine, as she’s been forced by her parent’s will to play nice with Nico for the sake of the future of her family’s company. However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine came face-to-face for the first time that had me loving this couple’s connection since Chloe sees Nico as her enemy, and yet, it’s palpable she still has feelings for him. Will they be able to work things out, so they can work together?

As for the dialogue, it was well-written and a compelling mix of intense moments due to the main characters history and their back stories that creates wonderful tension between them that eventually spills over onto the pages in a nicely-detailed romance. Moreover, the heroine is resilient when it comes to facing her past and I liked how determined she was to prove to Nico that she had what it takes to run the company, which is proven by her inspiration for her Christmas launch plan and her perseverance to make sure things succeed. While the hero, he’s arrogant, determined to ignore his attraction to the heroine because he’s her new boss, and I liked how he supported Chloe with everything she was trying to achieve with her launch plan once she managed to convince him that her plan was sound and that she’d be able to have everything ready by deadline.

”If that’s the case,” he said quietly, “then why do you look like that?”
“Like what?”
“Like you regret it.”
“I don’t regret it.”
“Chloe,” he growled.
She closed her eyes. Was silent for a long moment before she opened them again. “I am out of my depth,” she said softly. “You took me apart last night, Nico. It affected me. You affect me. I was trying to get my equilibrium back.”

Overall, Ms. Hayward has delivered a captivating read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was off-the-charts; and the ending wrapped this story up nicely as Chloe finally gets answers from Nico about the past and then Nico surprises Chloe with a beautiful Christmas present she’ll never forget because they’re meant-to-be. I would recommend Christmas at the Tycoon’s Command by Jennifer Hayward, if you enjoy second chance romances or books by authors Susan Stephens, Cathy Williams, Angela Bissell and Kate Hewitt.
