Completing the Pass by Jeanette Murray: Josh enjoys his position as the back-up quarterback Completing-the-Passon the Bobcats along with a low-profile public persona. But everything changes when starting quarterback Trey is injured and Josh is called on to fill in until Trey can return to the game. While most players would be thrilled at the idea of getting their shot at the starting job, Josh is reluctant and anxious about the spotlight.

Carri couldn’t wait to move out from under the watchful eye of her managing, manipulating mom. She’s enjoying her life of flipping homes in Utah, but she drops it all when her dad is in the hospital. Now Carri is staying for an undetermined amount of time to help out her parents and her mom is back to her manipulative ways.

Carri and Josh grew up together from being toddlers to Josh’s high school graduation. They were friends until they became enemies who loved to irritate each other. They lived to make the other one miserable. Their moms had always hoped that they would fall in love and get married, but Carri lives to do the opposite of what her mom wants.

“You fell for it.” Carri waited for Josh to start his mother’s car and pull out of her parents’ driveway. “You totally fell for it. Hook, line, and sucker.”
“Sinker,” he corrected automatically, putting the car into drive and heading out of the subdivision.
“No, sucker. You’re a total sucker. The moms played you, and you know it.”

While seeing each other again isn’t entirely unexpected, it is unwelcome for Carri who is struggling to deal with her dad’s health. Both experience an unwanted attraction to the grown-up, adult version of their teenaged nemesis. Josh is willing to act on the attraction and uses Carri’s desire for a break to appease both families by “dating.” Except fake dating turns out to be exactly what both of them need and a whole lot more real than either bargained for. Carri helps Josh by not playing into his ego and change in status, and Josh is a much needed and solid shoulder to lean on.

Her eyes were a little dazed when she rasped, “What was that for?”
“Because I won’t be kissing you on your doorstep. And I want to.”
That seemed to confuse her. As far as he was concerned, he could keep on confusing her until she gave in to the idea of them being together. Period.

Completing the Pass is a fun, engaging, sexy enemies to lovers romance. Jeanette Murray features the boy next door as he lives out his dream and a hero who is largely ignored in this genre. Ms. Murray created characters that you would want to know in real life. Completing the Pass can be read as a standalone in the Santa Fe Bobcats series. Fans of Carly Phillips and Susan Elizabeth Phillips will enjoy Completing the Pass.

Josh’s sudden superstar status thrusts him into the spotlight, and garners plenty of attention from the ladies—except for one.
