Cowgirls Don’t Cry by Silver James: Chance Barron is the family lawyer and he wants to make his father proud of him, Cowgirls-Dont-Crywhich is why he does his father’s bidding. When Chance’s flight is cancelled due to the weather, he runs into Cassidy and can’t quite get her out of his mind. He returns home only to find out that his father is hell bent on ruining Cassidy…and that Chance is responsible for making it happen.

Cassidy hasn’t been home in a while, but is forced to return when her father dies. She plans to sell the ranch, but she finds there are a number of roadblocks to settling her father’s debts. A bright spot amidst her troubles is the sexy Chance. She doesn’t know why he’s appeared in her life after meeting him at the airport.

“What’s that got to do with this discussion?”
“Discussion? Sounded more like a lecture to me, Cassidy. Why am I here? I came by to ask you out to dinner because I don’t have your phone number. Why do I keep coming back? Because you’re a damned attractive woman, and I want to get to know you. Is that so hard to believe?” He ignored the lie about her phone number, but all the other answers bounced around in his thoughts. And then the main one sucker punched him in the gut. Because my father wants to ruin you, and I’m having trouble with that.

Neither can resist the chemistry between them, but Chance is under increasing pressure to destroy Cassidy and move on. Chance has always done what his father wanted, but Cassidy is making him rethink his family loyalty. The pressure also mounts on Cassidy to find a way to save the ranch and pay off the loan.

She titled her head. “Why doesn’t Boots trust you?”
He wouldn’t look at her. “He has his reasons.”
“What are they?”
“Look, I don’t really want to get into it right now, okay?”
She blinked, taken aback by the vehemence in his voice. Even Buddy raised his head to stare up at the man. “Well, maybe I do. Maybe I shouldn’t trust you, either.”
“Maybe you shouldn’t.”

Cowgirls Don’t Cry is the first book in the Red Dirt Royalty series. Silver James creates an interesting family in the Barrons with a domineering bully of a patriarch and so many sexy sons. Ms. James created a strong sexy heroine who was more than a match for the determined Chancellor Barrons.

Cowgirls Don’t Cry is the story of finding yourself, your courage and coming home amidst a David vs. Goliath battle.

Thanks for the review, Kim. I like that Cassidy appears to be a strong woman. And I’m all ready to get on the ‘hate Chance’s father’ bandwagon! I hope he gets what’s coming to him. 😉

I love strong heroines!! I really enjoyed the determination in Cassidy. I think it’ll be interesting to see if Chance’s father does change over the course of the series.
