In Force of Attraction (K-9 Rescue #2) by D.D. Ayres, K-9 police officer Cole Force-of-Attractionhas moved on from heart break and hurt to a new place and job with her K-9 dog Hugo…or so she thought. Although happy with what she is doing, when an opportunity for her and Hugo to go undercover, Cole is eager for the chance. Until she discovers she will be partnered with the man she’s never really gotten over, her ex-husband and undercover agent Scott and his K-9 Izzy.

The chemistry between Cole and Scott still burns, but Cole is determined not to give him another chance to break her. Scott has worked undercover for so long at times it became part of him. He did what he had to do to get the job done, and in the end it cost him the one woman he’s always loved. He knows she is the best person for this operation, but can she be convinced working with him will be worth it? The job alone is a big challenge, but working together might be more of one…are both of them up to the challenge? Especially when it means posing as a couple.

The way Cole accepts the challenge and uses her role to change things between her and Scott really worked well. I liked how she did this…it was unavoidable and brought them closer again. As they rekindle the flame, their undercover operation takes them from dog shows to parties…and enemies from the past and present heat up the action even more. The professional and personal get blurred as the tension builds and the operation becomes more dangerous. Can there be a positive outcome for any of it?

I really liked both of these main characters. They are both strong, motivated, and like their jobs. There was conflict and tension along with the chemistry between them, and I felt like they dealt with it like the mature adults they are, bumps in the road and all. I felt like the past they had between them made the plot all the more interesting, and the speed that their personal relationship moved believable. The physical part of their relationship was never the problem though…it’s the trust that’s been broken that needs to be earned again. This ties in with the realistic feel that D. D. Ayres conveys with the portrayal of undercover work and all it can involve. I felt that this was very well done.

I also loved the K-9’s in Force of Attraction! They are amazing dogs and pulled on my heart as much as the main characters did.

Force of Attraction has a great blend of romance, heat, suspense, conflict and tension that flows well and held my attention through out. Although part of the K-9 Rescue series, it can easily be read as a stand alone as I read it.

I’d recommend Force of Attraction to romance readers looking for some spice and suspense!

The only thing more powerful than fear is desire…

A seasoned K-9 officer with the police in Maryland, Cole Jamison has left her old life behind her. With a new home and a new partner—a protective canine named Hugo—Cole is ready for fresh challenges. A crucial position on an important drug task force is exactly what she wants…until she discovers her gorgeous, infuriating ex-husband will be the DEA agent in charge.

FORCE OF ATTRACTION

Agent Scott Lucca may be a pro when it comes to undercover assignments, but this job is daunting even for him. Posing as a happy couple on the dog competition circuit means he and Cole need to get a lot closer than they’ve been in years. Playing a live-in couple should seem like a walk in the park compared to tracking a brutal criminal, but suddenly nothing could be more dangerous than the passionate fire they’ve rekindled…
