In Heated (Most Wanted #2) by J. Kenner, Indianapolis homicide detective Sloane Watson has dealt with her fair share of pain and emotional suffering, both in her childhood and while on the police force. She finds herself following a few leads on a possible missing persons case, ending up in Chicago during some downtime. Sloane hopes to go undercover at a local gentlemen’s club to track down details about the missing girl but her attempts are thwarted at every turn. Then she focuses on one of the “Knights” and co-owner of Destiny: Heated4Tyler Sharp. And her steely determination begins to falter under the scrutiny of his intense blue eyes.

‘I’d known lust before; I’d known attraction. But until Tyler, I’d never experienced this wild burning, this desperate, uncontrolled passion that left me hot and needy and alive.’

Sloan falls fast in lust with Tyler, who seems to inherently know exactly what she likes and how to get under her skin. Which very much disturbs the cop side of her, yet excites the woman in her. As their relationship quickly grows and becomes more complicated, Sloan has no idea how to reconcile Tyler’s business practices with the extraordinary way he makes her feel. All she knows is that when her unofficial investigation is over and she has to go back to Indiana, she may never be the same again.

“We’re moving so fast.”
“No,” he said gently. “We’re just moving at the speed of us.”
His words melted me a little, especially when he took my hand and pressed it to his heart, then pressed his palm over mine.

Heated is the second book in J. Kenner’s erotic Most Wanted series. This time around we get the deets on Tyler Sharp and his love interest, Sloan Watson, answering the question: what happens when a guy who dabbles on the wrong side of the law falls in love with a cop?

If you’ve read book one, you’ll probably agree after reading this that the dynamics between Tyler and Sloan were quite different from Evan and Angie. There was still a battle our heroine faced between wanting her guy to stop his shady business deals yet not wanting him to fundamentally change who he is. Quite the conundrum. But whereas Angie and Evan had known each other for years and had ties to the same friends, Tyler and Sloan were strangers, each having serious trust issues. That trust was tested more than once, leading to some plot twists I did not see coming. It also made their relationship quite explosive, both in and out of the bedroom.

I thought the idea behind the storyline was a compelling one. How would someone like Tyler, who is not always on the up-and-up, make things work with seemingly straight-laced Sloan. Well, turns out Sloan is not really so black & white, good & evil as she’d like to think. When things got complicated and ambiguous as to who she should trust…that’s when things got really interesting for me. The erotic nature of their affair was provocative to say the least with some extremely intense scenes. But what stood out most, I thought, was how thoughtful and, yes, romantic Tyler turned out to be. Even if he did have a dirty, dirty mouth. 😉

I think fans of erotic romance will enjoy Heated. The plot is complex, the characters engaging, and J. Kenner’s passionate writing brings it all perfectly together.

I knew better than to risk my heart.
But fierce passion comes at a high price.

I grew up believing in right and wrong, good and evil, black and white. I knew better than to trust. And then I met Tyler Sharp.

Bold, charming, and dangerously sexy, Tyler always gets what he wants. But his smile can be deceiving, his dealings sordid, his ambitions ruthless. I thought I was the one woman strong enough to resist him, but our need for each other was too urgent to deny.

One look and I was in trouble. One touch and I was hooked. One night and I became his.

And now that I’ve fallen, there’s no going back.

Heated is an erotic romance intended for mature audiences.
