REVIEW: I Do! by Rachel Gibson

In I Do! (Lovett, Texas #5) by Rachel Gibson, Becca Ramsey is excited to be helping bride-to-be Sadie Hollowell with I-Doher wedding to Vince Haven. It’s been the talk of the town since the nuptials were announced and should give Becca an opportunity to show everyone her hairstyling skills. Her focus falters a bit, though, when she realizes bad boy Nate Parrish is back in Lovett. Nate is working in his family’s car restoration business and is feeling pretty well at home these days. He’s trying to change his ways and stay out of trouble. But judging from his reaction when he meets Becca, trouble is bound to happen.

“Tell me you want it right here. Right now.” He lowered his face once more and fed her a wet kiss before he slid his mouth to her neck just below her ear. “I hear there was a wedding today. It only seems fitting that you say I do.”

Alpha males are Becca’s weakness but she’s resolved to ignore temptation this time. But Nate has other plans and they involve getting her alone. When she finds out he may not have been completely forthcoming about his relationship status, though, Becca might just have to show Nate how tough a Texas girl can be. He, on the other hand, has to make a choice whether to pursue what could be true love, or continue to be restless for the foreseeable future.

I Do! is a quick novella that finds Becca and Nate contemplating a full-scale romance, plus gets us caught up with how the former characters in Rachel Gibson’s Lovett, Texas series are doing currently.

Okay, so, cheating tropes are not my favorite types of stories. But I’ve enjoyed what I’ve read of this series and looked forward to finding out what was new in town. There was just as much fun, sexy banter as I’ve come to expect from Ms. Gibson’s stories, and the characters were as well developed as ever. However, Becca and Nate’s courtship seemed to move at lightning speed here. I thought it was perhaps a bit too quick, especially since Becca let Nate off the hook a little to easily for my liking. 😉 Though they did have some cute & flirty moments together that had me chuckling while the sparks of attraction grew between them.

I liked the way Ms. Gibson included scenes from other character’s POVs, so we got firsthand knowledge of what was going on with them as well. Suffice it to say it would make things easier if you have already read the novels in this series so things will make more sense. Included of course was Sadie and Vince, who were getting married, with Stella and Beau being a big part of the wedding proceedings, plus the rest of the town made an appearance. Nate and Becca each played their own roles with the wedding which could explain why the lusty pair were in such a hurry to get together, what with all the romance in the air…

Fans of the Lovett, Texas series will surely want to snatch this novella up to reconnect with the quirky couples and townspeople we’ve grown to love.

In New York Times bestselling author Rachel Gibson’s newest novella, Vince Haven and Sadie Hollowell are headed to the altar, and all their friends are headed to Lovett, Texas, to join them for the party of the year.

But Becca Ramsey doesn’t have time for all that. Fresh out of beauty school, Becca’s all business . . . and the last thing she needs is bad boy Nate Parrish anywhere in her life.

In the past, Nate was trouble. He’s been trying to repair his reputation—heck, he’s even got just one girlfriend. The problem is, she isn’t Becca. Now Nate’s in a whole lot of hot water. He needs to get Becca from “I won’t” to “I do” . . . but how can he do that when she won’t even say “I might”?

I have enjoyed the other books in this series and am glad to hear that she brings us up to date on some of those characters. I loved Sadie and Vince’s story.

Thanks, Leanna! It was pretty cool how Ms. Gibson wrote this novella…almost like a sitcom. I agree with you…Sadie & Vince were something else!!

I love Rachel’s books and this series too. Thanks for your review.

This sounds like a really good book. I haven’t read anything of hers before, but I think I’m going to have to! I keep seeing this book pop up on GR, and other various bookish social media. I guess it’s a sign that I just have to read it! haha

I am also not a fan of cheating tropes. It doesn’t do it for me, and it’s just really unnecessary. That was actually one of the biggest issues I had with the romance in Anna and the French Kiss (I sometimes read YA Romance). I’m just not a fan of those tropes.

Ms. Gibson is definitely a romance fan favorite, A.P., and I’m forever seeing her on so many blogs as well as GR and Booklikes. I’ve noticed the same thing with YA and NA Romance…the cheating trope crops up time & again. I can overlook parts of it if the writing is on-point or in this case, where the focus was on the wedding and everyone involved in it. Thanks for checking out the review!

I have been a fan of Rachel’s & this series. Vince is one of my favorite heroes! I am also not a fan of cheating. I will read this one anyway, if only for the wedding!

I think everyone agrees with you, Sharlene, about Vince! LOL Although Beau was pretty hot and intense too… I think you’ll like the scenes about the wedding. Mayhem ensues as always! 😉

Thanks for the review, Michele. I’m also not a fan of cheating stories, but I’ll probably be reading this book. I like catching up with previous characters in a series.
