REVIEW: I’ll Be There by Samantha Chase

I’ll Be There by Samantha Chase: When Zach gets injured in a climbing accident, his uncle Ill-Be-ThereWilliam decides to play matchmaker to get him out of his emotional detachment. He sends Zach’s assistant, Gabriella, to his house. Not only does he want his nephew to recover physically and emotionally, he also wants him to find happiness with her.

Zach and Gabriella had a good working relationship until an episode happened at her house with her family. Instead of talking to her, he starts treating her like a jerk. This continues for two years until the accident. While I liked Gabriella, I thought she was somewhat weak. She takes the abuse at work from Zach, and then she takes abuse from her family without standing up for herself. She just keeps coming back for more.

While it was true she loved what she did and was good at it, Zach had a way of sucking all of the joy out of it for her and making her feel like she wasn’t good enough. Sort of like her family did to her all the damn time.

While Zach had somewhat of a right to have a pity party for himself, the way he treated Gabriella for a portion of the book was wrong. When he overreacts to a situation because he felt incompetent, he pushes her away. Instead of admitting that it was because he felt like he wasn’t “man” enough for her while he was still recovering, he turns it around and places all the blame on Gabriella, which she didn’t need or deserve.

I thought the situation between Gabriella and her sister and parents was wrapped up too quickly. For how they treated her, I felt it should have been drawn out more. Instead, it’s pretty much covered in a couple of paragraphs, which didn’t provide a satisfying conclusion to that part of the story line.

This is the sixth book in the series. I hadn’t read any of the prior books and it felt like I was missing the backstory between Zach and Gabriella. There’s several references to an episode that took place between them in Alaska, but this book doesn’t go into detail about what happened. It also doesn’t describe how exactly Zach’s accident happened, which makes me think that maybe it was covered in the previous book. So while it can be read as a stand alone, it will feel like you’re missing some things.

I’ll be there by Samantha Chase is an enjoyable book. If you enjoy the boss/assistant trope, or books with meddling family members, this may be a book for you.

This Montgomery Has a Head for Business

Working for Zach Montgomery is challenging on many levels-coming from a wealthy and powerful family, he lives by his own rules and doesn’t answer to anyone. But Gabriella Martine has no intention of backing down. She’s used to handling stubborn men, and it doesn’t hurt that Zach is smart, charismatic… and gorgeous.

And a Heart for Adventure

Zach’s perfect world is turned upside down when a climbing accident leaves him broken, angry, and maddeningly dependent. In his slow quest for recovery, Gabriella is always there to help… but as Zach comes to see his beautiful assistant in a new light, he is forced to re-evaluate what it really means to be a man worthy of Gabriella’s love.

This was an informative review. And enough to let me know I’ll be passing on it. Thank you!

Great review, very helpful. I’ll check out the series, but won’t read the books as a standalone then…

Thank you! I would definitely recommend reading them in order. I have a feeling they probably build off one another, if this one was any indication.

Thanks for letting us know that if you have not read the previous books in the series you may not know the whole backstory.

You’re welcome! I always try to include that in my reviews because I don’t like picking up a book that’s part of a series only to end up feeling like I’m missing part of the story since I haven’t read the other books. 🙂

Going to give this one a pass, as well, although I’ve enjoyed Samantha Chase’s books before…her heroines were strong and sassed back when needed…thank you for the review…

You’re welcome. Gabriella eventually puts her foot down, but it’s after taking much more verbal abuse than she should have.
