REVIEW: A Deadly Web by Kay Hooper

In A Deadly Web (Bishop Files #2) by Kay Hooper, expect the unexpected! Tasha a-deadly-webis a telepath, but she hides it well. Or so she thinks, because someone knows and someone wants her. She can feel the darkness, the danger and the shadows creeping up on her.

John is a “Guardian” part of a group whose goal is to protect psychics from another group determined to capture them and use them for their own purposes. A danger that Tasha is unaware of, but one that is stalking her…

Tasha doesn’t want help, she’s frightened and doesn’t know who to trust. The voices in her head are not helping either. When danger creeps closer, John seems to be Tasha’s only hope. He is determined to protect her, but can he even if she lets him?

Kay writes an intense build up to the plot in Deadly Web with a lot of secondary character involvement. Sometimes the secondary characters and sub plots seemed to take over making it a little difficult to follow the story line at times, and sort out in my mind who was who and doing what. This made it a little harder to enjoy than I anticipated I’d enjoy this book.

I really liked the main characters. John has his own reasons for doing what he does, and I like how Kay pulls his background story out and let me get to know him. I liked Tasha and what we learn about her. She is a strong character, doing the best she can to stay safe. There is so much missing in her life though. I felt for her, because all of her focus lately is this darkness that overshadows everything. The relationship between John and Tasha grows out of necessity and is not romantic.

The concept of the main plot is intriguing and had a lot of potential. I just felt there was too much going on that overwhelmed the main plot. I did like glimpses of the Bishops from previous books Kay Hooper has written.

A Deadly Web is not a cliff hanger, but there is a lot of unresolved issues and burning questions remaining at its conclusion. I am undecided if I will read the next book in this series, however, I would recommend reading the first book in The Bishop Files before A Deadly Web.

If you like paranormal fiction with a host of mysterious characters and some suspense, I’d recommend A Deadly Web.

John Brodie is a Guardian, a member of a secret network devoted to protecting the psychics in his charge from a ruthless—and virtually invisible—enemy.

Tasha Solomon is unaware of the Guardians’ existence—until the night the gifted psychic suffers a shocking and violent attack and Brodie saves her life.

Tough and resilient, Tasha isn’t used to depending on anyone. But the assault has left her vulnerable. Tasha doesn’t know who wants her dead, or why, or when he will strike again. Now, she is forced to trust that Brodie can guide her through a tangled web of danger and deception toward a safe harbor—one she fears is more elusive with each dark and endless night.

Thanks for the review, still sounds like a pretty good read, I’m waiting to borrow The First Prophet from the library. If I like it, I’ll give A Deadly Web a go.
