A-Family-Like-HannahsA Family like Hannah’s by Carol Ross is a sweet romance that endeared to me to its characters.

Tate was a professional snowboarder until he gave it up. Now, he’s acting as a consultant for the Snowy Sky Resort and has big plans for the place, but former professional skier, Hannah, doesn’t want to hear his ideas for her resort. To say they get off a rocky start is putting it lightly, but Tate’s easy going attitude and his love for his nephew, Lucas, helps bridge the gap.

In the beginning, Tate finds Hannah reckless, but as he gets closer to her, he realizes she’s making the most out of her life. His reasons for wanting to Snowy Sky Resort to succeed using his ideas is noble and I can’t fault him for wanting to build a better life for Lucas, but I wish he tried to understand Hannah a little more. He doesn’t know why she’s so adamant about Snowy Sky Resort and he believes that the place isn’t as important to her as it is to him. He finds out near the end just how wrong he is.

“If I ever let a man in my life again I need to know he will face whatever life throws at him, or me, or at us, fearlessly and that he has the will to fight if that’s what it takes. Fight or flight – I need a fighter.”

Tate’s mother did a real number on him, to where he doesn’t trust women…until Hannah of course. Hannah is trustworthy, kind, and has a heart of gold, but Tate’s feeling of inadequacy and fear, make him believe that he can’t give Hannah or his nephew the family they both deserve. Family, is what you make it and Tate learns that you don’t have to be perfect or say the right thing all the time, all you need is love. Lucky for Tate, Hannah has enough to go around.

I really enjoyed Tate and Hannah’s story and loved how much effort they both put forward. I don’t read that many clean romances, but this was highly enjoyable and didn’t need loves scenes to make me appreciate Tate and Hannah’s connection. Both the main characters and the supporting characters and well-thought out and will keep you engaged.

If you enjoy your romances sweet and clean with a slow burn, A Family like Hannah’s is a great choice.

Starting over is serious business

With her professional skiing career cut short by an accident, Hannah James is putting all her energy into transforming Snowy Sky Resort into something special. There’s only one obstacle. Famous pro-snowboarder-turned-consultant Tate Addison has his own ideas about taking the Rankins, Alaska, lodge to the next level. But Hannah won’t compromise her dreams. She gets that Tate is trying to create a stable home for his orphaned six-year-old nephew—a boy Hannah already adores. And if she isn’t careful, she could also fall for the boy’s too-attractive uncle. Is she risking heartbreak? Or do she and Tate really want the same things out of life?

Thanks, Jennifer. I find that the HQ Heartwarming books are generally good reads – because they’re clean, the authors have to rely on strong stories and characters instead of just crazy chemistry.
