A Fortune’s Windfall by Michelle Major: Remi Reynolds and Linc Maloney have been friends for a long time. She’s in charge of the book department at a big box store in the small town of Chatelaine, Texas and Linc has worked his way up the ladder. Remi has stayed with her widowed mother over time and leads a fairly calm life of reading and certain TV shows. Linc had to grow up fast after his father Rick left and abandoned his wife with four boys and a baby daughter on the way.

The Maloneys find out that they are related to the super rich Fortune family via an attorney for their previously unknown grandfather. This man, Martin, lets them know that they will be inheriting a huge amount of money by oldest first. Suddenly, Linc is rich beyond his wildest dreams.

Linc takes care of his mother first and then decides he has to have the flashiest car possible. He gets his friend Remi to go with to help pick out the new vehicle and comes back to town with a bright red Ferrari. The car is just the first of Linc’s purchases. When Remi goes to the older home he still owns, she is flabbergasted with all the things he has piled up. She tells him he’s out of control and all his money won’t make him happy.

The two become more than friends when they take a luxurious out of town trip. Remi wants them to be more than friends with benefits, but Linc is very commitment phobic. He’s afraid he will turn out to be like his father. Will several major changes convince Linc there is a future for him with Remi?

Remi is very loyal to Linc. I appreciated she realized how people were trying to find out more about Linc through her. She comes across as very hard working and kind. I enjoyed that she stood up for herself .
I could see how Linc’s past impacted his present. At the same time, he seemed to lose sight of what was really important when it came to almost everyone he knew.

Justine, Linc’s baby sister all grown up, plays a pivotal role in the plot and seemed very authentic. She had carved her own path, too.

The descriptions of the settings and excursions were very vivid and fun. I always enjoy Texas as a location because the state offers so many diverse areas.

I have read other novels in the Fortunes of Texas series. I look forward to more in the continuity The Fortunes of Texas: Hitting the Jackpot.

He might just find more than an inheritance!

When Linc Maloney inherits a fortune—in more ways than one!—he throws caution to the wind and vows to live life like there’s no tomorrow. He finally has it all and can’t wait to treat his loved ones to the finer things in life. His friend and former coworker Remi Reynolds thinks that Linc is out of control and tries to remind him that money can’t buy happiness. She can’t admit to herself that she’s been feeling more than like for Linc for a long time. But Remi is cautious and doesn’t dare risk her heart on a man with a big-as-Texas fear of commitment…

So often people who have had to work hard to make ends meet have a difficult time adjusting to having a large amount of money. Too many go crazy spending forgetting who they are and what is important. It will be interesting to see how Remi and his sister pull him back for a reality check. It has been a while since I’ve read a book in the Fortune world. I started early on in the series. There are so many of them.
