A Long Time Coming by Meghan Quinn: It all started years ago in college with a SSS club meeting but at that moment neither Breaker or Lia had any idea that they had just meet their forever person, in that moment they were just best friends. Fast forward to present day and now the once scrabble buddies have built a crazy strong decade long friendship that could rival that of an old married couple. But what happens when you stop seeing your best friend as this genderless person and rather your perfect woman? Well this is exactly the dilemma that Breaker Cane is now facing, gone is his troll-like bestie and in her place is a total knock out that Breaker can not seem to get out of his mind and all it took for him to have this revelation? Her getting married to another guy! Now not only does Breaker need to convince Lia that her fiancé is a total tool and that she should instead pick him… should be a total walk in the park, right?

I have been loving the Cane brothers series to bit and I just could not wait to get my hand on Breaker and Lia’s story after getting glimpse of them in the first two books. Now I will be honest, it did take me a good few chapters to really get into this book but once things got going I was totally invested! Im a total sucker for a good friends to lovers romance and this is exactly what Quinn delivers in this book and let me just tell you after reading this I wanted to get my very own Breaker Cane!

Lia was a nice enough leading lady. Was she my favourite leading lady, nope, but I did grow to like her as the book progressed. I couldn’t help but feel that she had her head buried in the sand for far too long, I mean girl really you can’t tell the guy is hitting on you? Nevertheless I did enjoy getting to see her finally standing up to the Beave and finding friends outside of her Breaker bubble. I will say that Lia had some great character growth in this book, I really enjoyed getting to see her go from this timid and passive person into a woman that goes after what she wants.

Now our hero Breaker, well he was the star of this book and let me just tell you this guy knows how to woo himself a lady! I loved Breaker to bits, we get to see so many sides to this guy and I loved each one of them. Most of all I loved that he was Lia’s biggest cheerleader, even with all the money in the world Breaker was so down to Earth and really a total goof ball. I loved seeing his protective side when it came to defending Lia around the Beave and gosh there was just something so hot about his jealous side that I was so there for! As for his total hot alpha moments well let me just say Hot Damn! But it was the fact that he was always empowering Lia to be the best version of herself that really melted my heart. I just loved getting to see him finally realising that she had been the girl for him all along and then going full battle mode to show her that he is the best choice.

One of the things that really made this book so special was the bond and connection between Lia and Breaker. I loved that they had this strong no boundaries friendship and that they really were each others person. This only made their romantic relationship all the more moving. The chemistry has clearly always been between them all it took was a push to really get that fire burning and once it did, gosh were they hot!

The secondary characters in this book were gold! I loved getting to see Huxley, Lottie, JP and Kelsey all rallying around Breaker to help him win his girl. We also got a few extra guest appearances from some other familiar faces from crossover books that totally made this book all the more top notch. I just loved the banter between the Cane brothers and getting to see Hux and JP taking on a new chapter in their lives but also helping their baby bro find his feet in love. As for Brian and the Beave, well they both deserved a good solid kick for treating Lia so badly!

A Long Time Coming is a total must read this book was one of the best friends to lovers romance novels that I have read!

Have you ever heard of a man-in-waiting?

Yeah, neither has my best friend’s soon-to-be monster-in-law. Ooo, sorry, I meant mother-in-law. Nor has she heard of the term, what the bride wants, the bride gets.

With wedding planning underway and a short timeline, my best friend, Lia, has recruited me to help her battle the snarly beast that is Mrs. Beaver. Not scared at all, I accept the challenge as her man-in-waiting–aka, man of honor–and take matters into my own hands.

The only problem is, with every second we draw closer to the wedding, I’m starting to see my best girl in a different light.

She’s always been beautiful to me, but now . . . I find myself staring a touch too long. My hand lingering for one more minute. And when she’s upset? Allowing her to sleep in my bed.

And before I know what’s happening, it hits me like a ton of bricks. I’m in love with my best friend. Not just in love, but infatuated.

No one compares to her and nothing seems to distract me from that realization.
Not the girl I try to date while I help plan Lia’s wedding.
Not her angry fiancé who thinks I’m growing too close.
And not the looming deadline of her nuptials.

Which means, there’s only one thing left for me to do. Prove to Lia I’m the one she should be with instead. But with the pressure of her engagement, the stress from her soon-to-be mother-in-law, and the breath-stealing nerves running through me, I’m finding it a lot harder to claim the girl than I would like to admit.

Say a little prayer for me . . .

  5. Patricia Barraclugh,

Friends sometimes forget to look at each other as more than just that. Funny how having them make a big change in their life can make you look at them a bit differently. The good thing is, a solid friendship is one of the best foundations for a lasting relationship.

Timing is everything and it seems Breaker is up against a terrible deadline if he wants Lia for his. We don’t always appreciate someone until we take a second look and realize there is more there than we thought. It will be interesting to see how he pulls this off without losing her friendship and any hope of something more.
