In A Man of Honor by Miranda Liasson, some might think that losing their job or breaking A Man of Honor - Miranda Liasso - Entangled Publishing - Indulgeoff their engagement to be the worst thing that’s ever happened to them. But for Cat Kingston, Preston Guthrie cutting off all contact with her after he was injured overseas was a crushing blow. Determined to learn the truth why he’s avoiding her, she hatches a harebrain scheme to get his attention. However, she never anticipated her brother interrupting her plan, or Preston lying to him about the nature of their relationship. Has she made things worse, or can she finally make Preston realize how good they are together?

”Would you rather I told him you came to seduce me, and things got a little out of hand?”
“I did not come to seduce you.”
“Funny, because last I remember I was innocently sitting there resting my leg.”
“Right before you tackled me and I ended up in your lap.”
“I was trying to teach you a lesson.” Some lesson. His entire body still thrummed from her touch.

What a riveting, fast-paced story that provided some amusing moments, encompassing the brother’s best friend and fake relationship tropes, a heroine that’s determined to seduce the hero, and a hero finding it hard to deal with the injury he suffered while fighting for his country while fighting the chemistry between them.

From start to finish, the dialogue was well-written and I enjoyed how this story started with the way Cat decided she was going to get answers to the questions she had for the hero. Her plan for seduction couldn’t have been more perfect, as it was a way to get her through Preston’s front door without him denying her entry. Moreover, there were some wonderful light-hearted moments between the hero and heroine that had me cheering for this couple, as it wasn’t easy for Preston to give in to his feelings. He had issues, which ranged from bitterness towards his injury and how it happened to believing he wasn’t good enough for Cat because they come from such different backgrounds.

I liked both the main characters, and adored the secondary characters just as much. Preston’s competitive streak when it came to winning Cat’s attention from another man that wants her was downright hot, and definitely proves that no matter how hard he fights the attraction between them that eventually they’re going to give in to the strong chemistry that exists between them, which is there from the very moment they come face-to-face. Then there’s the other secondary characters that aren’t afraid to offer their advice, and convince Preston that he deserved happiness just as much as anyone.

”Preston stopped when they neared Cat. “I won,” he said grinning like a five-year-old.
“Nice race,” Brady said. “You got lucky. I want a rematch tomorrow.”
“Not a chance, I won fair and square. You’ll just have to go cry into your beer.”

Cat is strong, brave and determined in her pursuit of discovering answers to why Preston turned from her when he needed her most. She’s also determined not to get hurt again while hopefully helping him to deal with all that’s happened to him. To hopefully help Preston fight his demons by having someone to talk to; someone that isn’t going to judge and could take his mind off things – at least for a little bit. Although, that doesn’t seem possible when he blames himself for what happened. While Preston, he’s struggling to deal with his injury, and being around Cat is good for him. She shows him that love is worth fighting for, even when he believes he doesn’t deserve it. Her methods for distracting him from his problems were interesting with both a shopping expedition and tempting him with an ice cream testing.

Overall, this was a really good book where the more time this couple spent together, it was palpable that they wouldn’t be able to keep their hands off each other. Eventually, their intense chemistry spilled over onto the pages in hot, extremely passionate sex scenes that proved these two were meant for each other. That there was no way they could fight the explosive chemistry that built between them through their playful banter. The way this story ended was incredible, as Preston proves how much he loves Cat by involving the kids she taught and the song he had them singing that had me laughing. The words were definitely not the right ones to the music the hero was playing. I would recommend A Man of Honor by Miranda Liasson, if you enjoy any of the following: the brother’s best friend trope, the opposites attract trope, or the fake relationship trope.

Former Army Captain and venture capitalist Preston Guthrie has always had a thing for Cat Kingston, but he never felt like he could date his best friend’s sister. Plus, he’s a wrong-side-of-the-tracks guy and she’s a white-picket-fence kind of woman. Yet when they met again just before he was deployed, sparks flew. A fire ignited. And the heat was hot. For the first time, he thought a relationship with her might be possible…until an injury in the war changed everything…

Journalist Cat Kingston had a rough couple of years, surviving a broken engagement and the loss of her job. But connecting with Preston last fall seemed right. They shared steamy Skype sessions while he was overseas—until he was wounded, and cut her off without explanation. Now he’s back in town to be the Best Man for her sister’s wedding…and she wants answers.

Preston’s struggling with a leg wound, but the war scarred him on the inside, too. When Cat pays him a surprise visit and her brother catches them in a compromising position, Preston tells him they’re dating. He’s not sure how he can spend the entire wedding week fake-dating her when the chemistry between them feels anything but…
