In Archangel’s War (Guild Hunter #12) by Nalini Singh, For some time now the Cascade has been building, causes changes in the natural world and even in the power of the Archangels whose job it is to protect the people in each of their territories. The shift is enough to even potentially wake Ancients who have long been in their Sleep. Somehow the Cascade seems to have chosen Archangel Raphael and his consort Elena as its focus, with a rise in power finding its way to them both. But it might prove to be too much for them to endure. And as plagues hit each territory, and a strange phenomena occurs over China threatening everyone residing there, it leaves the Archangels scurrying to secure their people and prepare for an inevitable war.
“We have to have hope… Without hope, the Cascade wins.”
Absolutely epic and unbelievably suspenseful, Archangel’s War was a complete game changer in Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter universe and will surely leave fans reeling in the best of ways.
“The pace of chaos, it’s speeding up.” Like a concerto rising to an inevitable crescendo: war.’
I’m honestly not sure how to put into words how complex and tightly woven this story was–and certainly not without giving away some of the major plot points. But I can say for sure that Nalini Singh made everything bigger and grander–and continued with the characterization and world building she’s know for. From the stakes for all of earth’s inhabitants to the plagues that crept up upon each land to the changes even the Archangel’s underwent…it all added up to one huge event with many moving parts that was utterly fascinating.
As much as I would *love* to talk about the characters, again, I don’t want to spoil anything. It seemed like Singh did pull in just about everyone we’ve met along the way in this series, in one way or another, and there were a few shake ups as the tension built and came to a head. As with most of Singh’s work, it basically boiled down to good vs. evil, love vs. hate, and I can say that I had no idea how the war would turn out until the final few pages. Unlike the previous book, though, this didn’t end in a cliffhanger. So for fans of the Guild Hunter series who are hesitant to read Archangel’s War after the shock last time in Archangel’s Prophecy, you can put your faith in Singh. She ended this latest installment at just the right moment, in my humble opinion.
Nalini Singh’s detailed, evocative writing was perfectly on point, with gripping action sequences and a thrilling conclusion that made Archangel’s War an unforgettable journey.

Wings of silver. Wings of blue. Mortal heart. Broken dreams. Shatter. Shatter. Shatter. A sundering. A grave. I see the end. I see. . .
The world is in chaos as the power surge of the Cascade rises to a devastating crescendo. In furiously resisting its attempts to turn Elena into a vessel for Raphael’s power, Elena and her archangel are irrevocably changed. . .far beyond the prophecy of a cursed Ancient.
At the same time, violent and eerie events around the world threaten to wipe out entire populations. And in the Archangel Lijuan’s former territory, an unnatural fog weaves through the land, leaving only a bone-chilling silence in its wake. Soon it becomes clear that even the archangels are not immune to this deadly evil. This time, even the combined power of the Cadre may not be enough. . .
This war could end them all.
