Before I Fall (Falling #1) by Jessica Scott is a story about finding out what you will do, how far you will go for the person that you love. It is a story of survival, it is story about trust, it is a story that will make you cry, make you think and in the end, make you glad that you took the time to read this amazing story.
Beth Lamont only wants to build a better life for herself and her father. The father who is a retired Army Airborne officer who was injured in the line of duty. She tries everything to get him the medical help that he needs, but between the VA red tape and the ER visits, they are sinking fast. Beth does not have time for herself, no time for relationships, her focus is on getting her degree and helping her dad. When she is asked to tutor Noah Warren, former Army staff sergeant in stats, she has no interest at first, but she knows that the extra money will help pay the bills, get her dad his medication. She doesn’t intend to fall for Noah and she is taken off guard by the feelings that he stirs in her.
Noah Warren made a promise to his best friend, and it is a promise that he intends to keep. He knows that his is going to need all the help he can get to keep his grades up and make it through his classes. Suffering from PTSD, suffering the pain of injuries received during the war, and nightmares of the horror that he witnessed, Noah knows that his is a ticking time bomb, but when he is with Beth, the dark is not so scary, his pain is not so much and he wants to truly try and be the man that she deserves.
Both Noah and Beth are hiding secrets from each other, but when they come out and it threatens to blow up the future that they might have, they need to both decide what is more important, running away or standing by the person that you love.
I loved everything about this story. Noah and Beth are just such wonderful characters. Noah is always waiting for the other shoe to drop, concerned that the secrets he hides will cause Beth to run. Beth is such a strong character. The things that she has had to fight for with her dad, and the fear that she has for Noah, the sense of hopelessness that she feels at times is enough to break your heart. Trust me, I cried a few times while reading this book.
The is the kind of book that you need to read if you believe that love conquers all, if you believe that you can rise over your fears and get your life back. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for that perfect HEA. I look forward to reading more in this series and more from this wonderful author.

Stay focused. Get a job. Save her father’s life.
Beth Lamont knows far too much about the harsh realities of life her gilded classmates have only read about in class. She’ll do whatever it takes to take care of her father, even if that means tutoring a guy like Noah – a guy who represents everything she hates about the war, soldiers and what the Army has done to her family.
Noah Warren doesn’t know how to be a student. All he knows is war. But he’s going to college now to fulfill a promise and he doesn’t break his promises. Except he doesn’t count on his tutor being drop dead gorgeous and distracting as hell. One look at Beth threatens to unravel the careful lies Noah has constructed around him.
A simple arrangement turns into something neither of them can deny. And a war that neither of them can forget could destroy them both.
