In Bound to be a Groom by Megan Mulry, Anna’s confused feelings for Pia may be partially due to her upbringing in the Spanish convent they currently reside in. Forever being told that a woman’s place was to be subservient to a man didn’t sit well with her considering she has a very dominant side. A side that it turns out Pia very much enjoys, once she and Anna give in to their real feelings. But they soon tire of having to hide their love from everyone so Anna thinks of a way they can be together for real. She must find a man willing to make her his mistress or wife, then she will send for Pia to stay with them. It will be risky, what with a war seeming imminent between Spain and England, but it’s a risk they must take if they wish to be together.
‘She had tried to deny how deeply she loved Pia, to convince herself that she only loved her as a friend. She had tried to persuade herself that her physical desire was part of a childish infatuation or sinful temptation, a brief flare of unfamiliar lust that would pass soon enough. But it hadn’t passed. It had grown.’
Anna soon meets Sebastian after leaving the convent, a man of wealth with a need for submission. They seem to have a mutual attraction, understanding each other on a level neither of them suspected they would ever find in another. Anna is honest about her love for Pia and in her hopes to have the Spanish beauty join them. Sebastian will do anything to make Anna happy, including offering to marry her and allowing her to bring her lover to their home and their bed. But Sebastian has some unfinished business himself after he is in the presence of Farleigh again, a man with whom he had an affair a few years prior. Could there be a way that they all could indulge in their feelings and fantasies without anyone getting jealous or hurt in the process?
‘The water was cold against his skin, but the chill came from the terrifying hope that he could be joined with these three people, that the four of them–together–could define and direct their life as they wished.’
What a naughty, filthy romp we have in Bound to be a Groom. Megan Mulry took spot on historical romance writing and added in some BDSM and a lot of erotic styling to give us a mixture that will have you about ready to combust! *fans face*
“You’re so impertinent. You deserve a good spanking, is what you deserve.”
His nostrils flared and his eyes widened. “You cannot imagine how the thought delights me.”
“Sebastian!” She tried to sound stern, but his fervor was contagious and her exasperation was tinged with humor.
This is not your average bodice ripper by any means. The story may be set in 1808, but even for today’s standards, this pushes a few boundaries. First there is Anna and Pia, two women, both living in a convent who fall head over heels in love and concoct a scheme as to how they can be together. Then Anna meets Sebastian who she develops feelings for as well, although he understands her need to have Pia in her life. So they become a threesome, with Anna being dominant to them both. But there is Farleigh from Sebastian’s past who makes a reappearance and is also dominant. With four of them all involved with each other it seems like it should feel completely inappropriate. But Ms. Mulry wrote the characters in such a fashion that the reader gets a sense of genuine feelings between each and every one of them. We get to see their trust grow as they sort through a way for them all to be happy. Yes, it is filled with sex from the beginning to the end of the book, but it somehow didn’t really seem gratuitous. Just sexy and very, very kinky.
If you like books with a different twist on historical romance and don’t mind erotic & BDSM storylines, give Bound to be a Groom a try.
