Breakaway (Last Bachelor Standing) by Nancy Warren: Max, Adam and Dylan have been great friends since they were only five years old. Now, thirty years later, they are still best buddies and successful in their chosen professions. Adam has found the love of his life, so either Max or Dylan will be the last bachelor standing from their trio. This story is about billionaire and venture capitalist Max Varo. Max is not only smart, he is incredibly good-looking, a decent hockey player and a successful inventor.

break1Max’s company is running and profiting flawlessly, due to his talented employees and executive management. As a result, he has become slightly bored with the daily grind and seeks some adventure. So he decides to personally check-out Polar Air, a small Alaskan airline that he is thinking about purchasing. Polar Air has a solid foundation, however, it has run into some financial difficulties over the past few years. Luckily, Max is a licensed pilot and is quickly hired by the ailing airline.

Claire Lundstrom, pilot and co-owner of Polar Air, has no idea that her family’s business is on the brink of closing its doors. Her grandmother Lynette has kept that to herself, instead of seeking Claire’s help once she discovered the financial discrepancies. So Claire continues to manage the pilots, arrange the charters, and fly, while her grandmother runs the office. Unbeknownst to the both of them, their operations manager, who is their only employee with the exception of the pilots, is robbing them blind and will do anything to keep his greedy pockets filled with cash.

Max and Claire hit it off immediately and within a very short period of time, share a truly passionate kiss. The sexual tension between them is beyond electric. Claire is showing Max the ropes when the plane has a malfunction and she has to make an emergency landing. Her amazing flying skills save both of their lives. It takes them two days to trek to the main road through the rough Alaskan terrain. They get to know each other very well, have hot sex in the great outdoors and begin to fall in love.

Of course it is only a matter of time before Claire finds out about who and what Max really is. Max has a lot to do in order to earn her trust again, so they can forge a future together.

I found Claire to be an amazing woman. Her independence is refreshing and not overly done. I enjoyed her interactions with her best friend Laurel and shared in their passion for quality clothing and a never ending shoe supply.

I really liked this sweet and touching romance. To begin with, Claire’s grandmother is strong and spunky, which added a lot of boldness to the story. Claire and Max are good-natured, have great chemistry and support each other when the going gets rough. I immediately connected to them as individuals and as a couple. Ms. Warren did a great job developing all the characters. This is a well-written book, complete with great personalities, a plot that twists and turns in all the right places and an ending that will definitely leave you smiling from ear to ear.
