In Cinderella Unmasked by Susannah Erwin, Nelle Lassen attends a masked party in an effort to secure funding for a foundation she works for. There she meets a masked man that she hits it off with, but when he pulls off his mask, it turns out to be Grayson Monk, son of the man who ruined her father’s career. She instantly dislikes him because of his family.

While Grayson doesn’t believe Nelle’s father’s version of the events, he does know Nelle fascinates him. When his father’s declining health causes him to step down from Congress, Grayson decides to follow in his family’s steps and run for his seat. His sister and campaign manager, Finley, decides he needs to be in a fake relationship to bolster his poll ratings. Nelle needs Grayson’s business connections to raise funds for the foundation. They need each other. Will Nelle be able to put her hatred of the Monk family aside and see that Grayson is not his father? And when the truth comes out about his father, will Grayson step up and do what’s right?

The relationship between the pair builds up at a nice pace. They start off as enemies (at least for Nelle), then move on to friends before becoming lovers. It isn’t rushed, and I enjoyed that readers get to see things unfold from both Nelle’s and Grayson’s points of views.

The book also deals with some criminal issues, and I liked how Finley and Grayson handled things. Grayson is an upstanding man, even if it takes Nelle a little bit of time to figure that out.

Cinderella Unmasked is a wonderfully written romance with great character development and an interesting storyline. This was the first book I’ve read by this author, and I’m looking forward to reading more from her.

Nelle Lassen can’t believe she fell into the arms of the infamous Grayson Monk—and enjoyed it! And when the masks come off, the bitter war between their families seems to mean nothing to him. When he offers a much-needed boost to her career, Nelle’s suspicious but accepts. Is he using her as a fake girlfriend? How outrageous! And how very, very tempting…
