In Claiming his Nine-Month Consequence by Jennie Lucas , Ares Kourakis finds Ruby Prescott very intriguing. For one, she’s not falling at his feet to get to know him better. However, soon after meeting Ruby, the pair give into their intense chemistry, which later leads to Ruby discovering she’s pregnant. Determined to be there for her, Ares does everything he can to make things easier, yet there’s something he won’t do – he won’t fall in love, not even with the one woman that has captured his attention more than any woman ever has. Will Ruby stay for the sake of their baby, or will she walk away from the man she’s fallen in love with?

”I’m trying to help you out. Money is meaningless to me. Nothing but a tool to get what I want.”
Ruby looked at him coldly. “There’s only one tool I see, and I’m looking right at him.”
His shoulders tightened. “You indicated money was an issue. I’m just trying to solve your problem.”
“You’re trying to buy me.”
“We had a great night. I want a little more. Why are you insulted?”

This is the second book I’ve read by Ms. Lucas and it’s a book that does not disappoint. Really, the main characters are fantastic; the dialogue was compelling, because Ares is willing to do anything to win Ruby over, even if it means pushing her into doing things his way once she discovers she’s pregnant; and the fast-paced storyline had me reading quickly determined to discover whether the hero would fall in love with the heroine because he’s adamant that he’ll never give her the happy ever after she deserves. However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine came face-to-face for the first time that drew me into this story completely, as Ruby is determined to resist Ares, no matter how confident and charming he is.

With the main characters, both have serious trust issues in the way Ruby has a problem with rich men that use their money to get what they want, and she isn’t about to let Ares get to her when it comes to him making her feel bad; while Ares isn’t sure if any woman is with him for him instead of his money, so why bother getting close to anyone. Will Ares ever be able to fully trust Ruby? Will Ares realize how different Ruby is to any other woman he’s ever been with? Moreover, the heroine is resilient, courageous and I liked how she stands up for herself. Certainly, she challenges the hero with her need to be independent and the decisions she makes are definitely right for her.

”I hate you,” she grumbled as she climbed in beside him.
“It’s for your own good.”
“Say that one more time, and I might slap you.”
Ares’s gaze traced over her lazily, then revved the engine. “Looking forward to it.”

While the hero, he’s been through tough times and it’s understandable why he doesn’t do relationships after what’s happened in his previous relationships an then the fact that his father wasn’t the most reliable and trustworthy man; a man he never wants to end up like. Ares is also confident, ruthless and I liked how determined he was to get his way, even though Ruby challenges him every step of the way and shows him that there are still good people in the world; people that won’t betray him.

Overall, Ms. Lucas has penned a wonderful read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was intense; the romance special because Ruby isn’t like any woman Ares has ever been with before; and the ending had me wanting to cry for the hero, as readers discover more about his past and why he doesn’t trust many people, but had me liking how far the hero was willing to go to win the heroine’s heart. No way could he let Ruby get away once he realized how much she meant to him. I would recommend Claiming his Nine-Month Consequence by Jennie Lucas, if you enjoy the enemy to lovers trope or books by authors Angela Bissell, Kelly Hunter, Lynne Graham and Caitlyn Crews.
