Cold Case Double Cross by Jessica R. Patch is the second book in her Cold Case Investigators series. This is a christian romance with 
strong themes of forgiveness and trusting God’s wisdom.
Mae Vogel’s job as a cold case investigator for the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations turns personal when she goes home to Willow Banks for a week. Her grandmother’s health is failing so Mae took a vacation week to spend some time with her. Mae’s major complaint with this visit was the tension within her family at first but that wasn’t much compared to the cold case she becomes involved in. Cash Ryland, the guy who stole her English essay and thus messed up her chance to become high school valedictorian, brings her into his investigation of his brother’s murder conviction. She didn’t want to work with Cash on this cold case but it’s her job. Mae just needs to fight her attraction to a changed Cash Ryland.
Cash Ryland is a detective in the Willow Banks Sheriff Department. He has been looking into the murder case that sent his brother Troy to prison for killing his ex-wife. Troy insists he is innocent. Cash realizes his brother isn’t exactly the best specimen of humanity. He beat and abused his wife when he got drunk. Which happened too often. But Cash is convinced Troy is no murderer. Cash is sure getting cold case investigator Mae Vogel involved in his investigation will prove his brother’s innocence.
There are frequent biblical references. This all fits well with the storyline. The two main characters, Mae and Cash, have trust issues and need to work out past differences between the two of them. As their investigation moves along they face much danger. The actual murderer sure doesn’t want to get caught. The action and suspense begins early in the story and continues to thrill throughout. I liked how Mae and Cash worked out their issues to become better people and a trusting loving couple.
