Coming Clean by C.L. Parker is the third book in the Monkey Business Trio Series and picks up years after Getting Rough ended. Cassidy and Shaw now have a baby boy and must learn how to balance work life with their home life. The author gives readers a look at what happens after our characters get their happily ever after.
Business is good for Shaw and he’s doing very well in his partnership, but that also means not spending enough time with his wife and son. Cassidy is feeling a little jealous that Shaw still gets to live an exciting life as a sports agent. I see where Cassidy is coming from. It’s not easy to be a stay at home mom, but on the other hand, it’s not easy going to work and missing your baby grow up without you. It’s a tough situation to be in, but it happens to us all.
Their life has changed dramatically. They went from enemies to lovers, to being in love and having a son. The only thing that hasn’t changed is their marital status. Shaw’s upbringing left a sour taste in his mouth on the institution of marriage, and he has no intentions of proposing to Cassidy. With Shaw working all the time to give Cassidy and his son a better life, his home life is falling apart. It’s clear that Shaw and Cassidy are just going through the motions and have lost their spark. So, with a broken heart, Cassidy makes plans to leave. I don’t blame her for her decision, Shaw took her for granted and she needs him to man up.
Shaw’s eyes are finally opened now that he almost lost Cassidy and his son, and after some begging on his part, Cassidy agrees to stay, as long as Shaw agrees to counseling and actually attends the sessions. Shaw’s not the only one who’s changed. Cassidy used to be fierce and now, she’s gone soft and it’s clear that they have indeed lost their passion for each other and the only way to get it back is with a sex therapist. An unusual sex therapist. Can Shaw and Cassidy regain their passion or are they too far gone?
Overall, I am very pleased with Coming Clean. Relationships can be messy and stressful and sometimes love isn’t enough. C.L. Parker did an amazing job at showing how much Shaw and Cassidy had to overcome and how much work was needed to keep their relationship above ground. Love might not be easy, but it’s definitely worth it. If you’ve read the first two books in this series, then you certainly need to read this one!
