REVIEW: Courting Her Amish Heart by Mary Davis

In Courting Her Amish Heart, Mary Davis writes a unique story about a young Amish woman who has left the community to do “the unthinkable”- get her medical degree! Mary Davis’s writing style is refreshing, and I enjoyed reading a book by her for the first time.

It was heartwarming and beautiful to read how Kathleen is welcomed back to her family with open arms, and the promise of support now that she has returned.

Kathleen is very fortunate in having her family’s support, and also the support of a local young widower, Noah. Noah is an unusual Amish church leader in that he recognizes the need for their community to have a medical clinic run by one of their own. Noah fast becomes Kathleen’s strongest supporter within the community, second only to her parents. This comes in handy, as many in the community including the clergy, are extremely reluctant for Kathleen to treat them and urge community members to refuse treatment.

Throughout the story, Noah and Kathleen develop a strong friendship- will this lead to more? Will the community accept Kathleen’s desire to serve them as their physician? To find out, I recommend reading “Courting Her Amish Heart!
