REVIEW: Cut to the Chase by Elle Keating

In Cut to the Chase by Elle Keating, Mia, a former police profiler, is brought in by her uncle Andrew to profile the person sending threats to Erin and Chase. She meets Erin’s brother, Paul, who doesn’t trust easily. Paul is determined to keep Mia at arm’s length, but when threats start getting directed towards Mia, he becomes determined to save both Mia and his sister.

Both Mia and Paul have traumatic pasts. After Mia’s mother was raped and strangled to death, her father couldn’t take the loss and took his own life. Paul found his sister while she was being raped by an unknown assailant. They’re both hesitant to let anyone into their lives, fearing that something bad could happen to them.

The book also concentrates on Chase and Erin’s relationship. After everything Erin had been through, Chase was very protective of her and willing to do anything to get her out of harm’s way.

It’s revealed early on who the person is that’s making the threats, even though Mia, Paul, Chase, Erin, and Andrew don’t figure it out until towards the end of the book. There are chapters devoted strictly to him, which allows the readers to gain an understanding of his thoughts and why he was doing the things he was.

This is the second book in the series, and I don’t recommend reading it as a stand alone. I had not read the first book, Thrill of the Chase, and it feels like this one is a continuation of book one. Things are referred to that happened in the first book. I also felt like I didn’t understand Erin and Chase’s relationship at times and probably would have enjoyed their sections of the book more had I known more about the background of their relationship.

Overall this was a good book but would have been better for me if I had read the previous book first. If you enjoy your romance with some suspense, this is worth checking out.
