In Everything Changes (Creek Canyon #3) by Catherine Bybee, Civil engineer Grace Hudson was raised by a cop and has two brothers that show her no mercy just because she happens to be female. They’ve taught her how to take care of herself in almost any situation. But when she’s being treated poorly by her sexist boss and falsely accused of taking bribes from a smarmy landowner, Grace is at a loss how to fix the situation. She hates asking for help–or taking it when offered–but when her new love interest, CEO Dameon Locke, offers to step in, she doesn’t have much more to lose. Grace just hopes she doesn’t put him in harm’s way. Or that it will cause a rift in what could be a forever kind of relationship between them.
“You are the single best thing that has ever happened in my life.”
Dameon took one look at Grace and was instantly more interested in her than he’s been in any woman before. While he was trying to figure out how to find the sassy beauty again after their brief coffee shop encounter, Grace appears at his city meeting and finds out she’ll be the engineer helping him with his new land development. That totally works for Dameon. What doesn’t work is seeing how she’s treated by a few businessmen locally. He knows Grace is independent so he doesn’t want to step on her toes. But he’s not going to watch someone hurt her–or her career–either, if he can help it. Dameon knows what they have is something true and worth cultivating. And he’s going to do everything in his power to not only keep Grace safe but to spend the rest of his life making her every dream come true.
‘Grace was sexy and beautiful and staring at him with her hair sprawled all over his pillows. There were so many things he wanted to say to her in that moment, but there was something he wanted to do to her more.’
Everything Changes was everything I had hoped for in the final Creek Canyon book. Swoony, sensual romance. Laughs and tears. Even a touch of suspense. Catherine Bybee didn’t hold anything back, making sure her readers were entertained and left with a heart full of hope for these characters we’ve come to know and love.
“Isn’t it crazy how life is constantly changing?” Grace asked. “I didn’t even know you guys two years ago and now we’re all family.”
“Everything changes,” Erin said. “And then you meet the right guy who changes everything.”
Grace smiled into the thought. Dameon was doing exactly that for her.
While I hate to see the Creek Canyon trilogy end, Catherine Bybee sent these characters off on an especially high note. We got to catch up with the two previous couples: Parker & Colin and Erin & Matt, along with the rest of the Hudson family during the holidays and beyond. So much fun! And I was very happy that spunky Grace met her match in Dameon Locke (<—cool name for a hero, right?) who both challenged and cherished her.
All of the Hudsons, Grace definitely included, went through the wringer in book two, Home to Me, with Erin facing down her abusive past. So it felt like Everything Changes was the next step in the process of them all healing. With them letting go of the worry that plagued them. This was Grace and crew embracing their new beginnings.
I loved Grace just as much as I got to know her better here as I did in her brothers’ books. She was highly intelligent, could stand up for herself, absolutely adored her family and friends…but was feeling out of sorts after Erin’s ex brought fear to their lives. Dameon entering Grace’s world when he did was a blessing in disguise. He was thoughtful, steady, sexy of course. And he knew how special the connection they shared could turn out to be. But Dameon had his own challenges to face. The combination of what he and Grace were working through in their own personal lives made this a very rich, layered story and I just loved how well they worked together, supporting each other along the way.
Snappy dialogue and a fast-paced plot made Everything Changes a highly enjoyable read. Although it’s bittersweet to say goodbye to Creek Canyon, I’m very much looking forward to what Catherine Bybee has next for us.
