Falling Under by Lisa Renee Jones is the third and final standalone book in the Walker Security series. The writing is well-paced; the characters are intriguing and it doesn’t take long to get lost in the story.

Jacob King works for Walker Security and is in charge of protecting Detective Jewel Carpenter. The only issue…Jewel doesn’t want protecting. She protects other people. That’s her job. But, when her father begs her take the protection, she agrees, only to appease him. Jewel plans to lose Jacob, only to realize that the former Green Beret is one step ahead of her and he has no intentions of getting lost.

Jacob tries to convince himself that he’s the professional and Jewel is just another assignment, but she doesn’t feel like another assignment. In fact, he struggles with keeping his hands to himself when it comes to her.

“Don’t kiss me,” she whispers, a moment before I would.
“Sorry, detective,” I say. “But this is for your own good.”

Jewel and Jacob have a lot in common. Both are control freaks and both know what’s it like to lose family and/or loved ones. Because of this, they don’t get too close to other people. Both Jewel and Jacob take a bit to warm up too, as well. They each have their own barriers up, but it doesn’t take long before their walls drop and they start to get to know each other.

I’m a big fan of this author, but in terms of chemistry, I didn’t feel it between Jacob and Jewel. It felt forced, but that’s just my opinion. The suspense of the story still makes the book a wonderful read and the author sure knows how to sneak in those surprise twists that you never see coming. With its attention-grabbing cover and thrilling moments, Falling Under is sure to keep readers busy.

Ex-special forces, Jacob King, is a man who keeps to himself, having learned the hard way that letting people close to you, trusting them, might just get you killed. A lesson he learned when members of his Special Ops team turned dirty, while others, men he considered friends, died. He made them pay. He made them hurt. He put them in jail. And so he doesn’t trust anyone anymore. He keeps his women hot and fast, his friends few to none, and his clients through the elite Walker Security at a professional distance, but safe.

It works for him. Until it doesn’t.

His newest job should be simple and cut and dry. Jewel Carpenter, the daughter of the CEO of Carpenter Enterprises, is receiving death threats. He’s to protect her and find out who is issuing the threats.

Simple. Cut and Dry.

Until it’s not.

Until the chemistry between he and Jewel is all about love, hate, and sex. But even as he fights the attraction to Jewel and discovers there is more to her than meets the eye, the real threat comes not from the threats she’s receiving, but the connection she has to him. Because his past has come full circle, and those men he’s made pay for their sins now want him to pay. And what better way than the woman in his bed?
