“The air crackled around them. Their desire was a living, breathing entity that swelled to enormous proportions.”

FeverIn Fever by Maya Banks Jace Crestwell is a successful business executive who believes in working hard, playing hard and living free. He and his best friend/business partner, Ash, have the same tastes and have frequently shared women. When Jace spots a beautiful woman at his sister’s engagement party he is instantly attracted and somehow feels protective of her on sight. He has never experienced anything like it and is shocked at the need to possess her as his own…and not share her with Ash.

“Lost. Already she was lost in him. So completely immersed that she wasn’t sure she’d ever find her way out again.”

Bethany Willis has led a rough life and certainly not by choice. She has tried to make the best of what she’s been dealt and to provide for herself and her brother Jack. She notices a handsome, brooding man watching her as she’s working and it completely unnerves her. She gets swept into his lifestyle and even with his acceptance of her past, she doesn’t feel she is good enough for him. Her ties to Jack create problems that neither she nor Jace deal well with and it threatens to tear them apart.

Book two in the Breathless trilogy is every bit as well written as the first book Rush. Maya Banks does such a good job creating outstanding characters who are flawed but still likeable and you can’t help but be pulled into the plot. This story delved more into the Dom/sub aspect of relationships without being too over the top. It is certainly a different relationship than in book one, but Bethany’s story is quite a change compared to Mia’s. Jace is a bit hard to love at times but he is a very dark yet passionate person and is shaken by his feelings for Bethany. The love scenes are explicit and intense and seriously sizzle off the pages. If you are looking for a story with a bit of BDSM mixed with romance, this might be the book for you.
