First Love Last Love by Adele Griffin: Vida Jamison has spent years creating a life built around stability and the things she can count on. But when a winter storm brings her face-to-face with Elijah Beck, her childhood best friend and first love, the past comes rushing back. Elijah has become a celebrated musician, adored by fans and recognized for his talent, but behind the fame is a man struggling with his own demons. Their unexpected reunion forces Vida to revisit the choices, heartbreak, and history that have shaped both of their lives.

FIRST LOVE LAST LOVE was a much more bittersweet and emotionally complicated story than a traditional second-chance romance. The nostalgia was a big part of its appeal, especially the glimpses into Vida and Elijah’s childhood and the history that connected them long before fame and adulthood changed everything.

The comparison to A Star Is Born and Love and Other Words immediately caught my attention. A childhood friendship that turns into first love, a decades-long history, a famous musician, and an unexpected reunion? I was intrigued by the idea of exploring what happens when two people reconnect after life has taken them in completely different directions. And I especially liked that this story centered on characters in their forties, with years of decisions, relationships, and life experiences behind them.

The multiple perspectives, including chapters from Elijah’s mother, added another layer to the story and helped reveal just how much of their relationship was shaped by family, childhood wounds, and circumstances beyond their control. I also appreciated that the story didn’t shy away from the difficult realities of addiction and the damage it can cause to the people who love someone struggling with it.

Vida and Elijah romance wasn’t all swoony nostalgia and second-chance magic. There was a lot of hurt, disappointment, and frustration wrapped up in their relationship. I found myself understanding why Vida struggled to let go of someone who had been such a significant part of her life, while also wishing she would stop making excuses for him. Their connection was powerful, but it was also messy, and the story really explored how love can become tangled up with loyalty, dependency, and the hope that someone will finally change.

FIRST LOVE LAST LOVE was a bittersweet exploration of love, regret, and all the what-ifs we carry with us.

When the past collides with the present—literally—one woman must decide if the life she built is the one she truly wants, or just the one she chose.

Vida Jamison favors the reliable and the unsurprising – the things she can count on. But all it takes is a winter storm, a chance encounter, and a familiar voice to turn certainty into quicksand.

Elijah Beck, her first love and most enduring wildcard, is back in town.

He might have struck gold on the stage, writing the soundtrack to the lives of a generation, but for Vida, he’s just the one person who has always known how to get under her skin. Elijah, for all his talent and magnetism, has spent a lifetime being wanted but never quite held—by the industry that made him famous, by the fans who adored him from a safe distance. When an accident lands them in the hospital, Vida has to face the question she’s spent two decades avoiding: Is Elijah her greatest mistake, or the love she was always meant to find again?

Nostalgia is a tricky thing. The past can pull you under just as easily as it can set you free.
