In Friend, Fling, Forever? by Janice Lynn, Kami Clark is the one woman that doesn’t fall for Dr. Gabe Nelson’s charm. However, when he asks her for help, she doesn’t know whether she can do what he’s asking. Yet, the more time they spend together, the more she finds herself falling for a man known for his whirlwind dating habit. Will Gabe be able to convince Kami that she’s the one for him or will she walk away from her shot at happiness because she’s afraid of getting hurt?
”Afraid you’ll get weak and say yes?”
She arche a brow. “Are you saying a woman saying yes to you is a sign of weakness?”
Gabe chuckled. “Never.”
“For the record, you’re leaving that whipped cream and cherries for me to eat later, at my leisure, without you.”
“If I say yes does that make me weak?”
She laughed. “I’d say it makes you a smart man for not coming between a woman and her dessert.”
What a wonderfully-crafted, fast-paced, captivating read Ms. Lynn has delivered in this book that kept me entertained from start to finish, especially because of the opening line that had me smiling and wanting to know what answer the heroine would give the hero; and where compelling dialogue had me loving the growing relationship between the hero and heroine; and where the main characters have intense and interesting back stories that had me liking that the heroine put her trust in the hero, even though it’s not easy for her to do so after everything that’s happened in her past.
With the main characters, I absolutely loved the hero. He’s smart, charismatic, a good doctor and I liked how determined he was to win over the heroine. Really, he’s so persistent and determined with good reason for asking such a favor of Kami. Yet, what I liked most of all about the hero was his determination to win over the heroine because he feels something for her he’s never felt for any woman before. Something he can’t decide whether is lust or love and makes him want to find out, if only Kami will give him a chance. While the heroine, she’s sassy, hard-working, resilient and very determined to resist the hero because she’s been hurt before, but I liked that she couldn’t stay away from Gabe because they’re good together and she needs someone to show her that they won’t leave when the going gets tough.
She snapped her fingers and waved them in front of her face. “Eyes up here, Gabe. Not on my legs.”
“You’re such a party pooper, Kam.”
She laughed. “You’re crazy and did you really just call me a party pooper?”
“If the shoe fits.”
Shaking her head, Kami gathered her leftover pancakes and the trash, using the empty bags to store them. “You’re lucky I’m not wearing shoes or I might be throwing them at you.”
Overall, Ms. Lynn has delivered a marvellous and extremely engaging read in this book where the chemistry between this couple is off-the-charts; the romance was worth the wait and had me enjoying how this couple went from friends to lovers; and the ending had me loving the heroine’s determination to win the hero back, especially with what she does to prove she’s all in when it comes to their relationship. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up perfectly because of what Gabe does for Kami in fulfilling her dreams. I would recommend Friend, Fling, Forever? by Janice Lynn, if you enjoy the friends to lovers trope, workplace romances, medical romances or books by authors Lucy Ryder, Tina Beckett, Sue Mackay and Amy Ruttan.
