From Nowhere by Jewel E. Ann: Maren is a seasoned air tanker pilot, fearless in the face of wildfires but when it comes to matters of the heart, well this is where she is hesitant. For the moment all Maren really cares about is her career, really the last thing on her mind is looking for love, well it would seem that she didn’t have to do much work because love has come looking for her in the most unexpected place.
Ozzy is still grappling with the tragic loss of his wife and father in a car accident two years ago. Since the accident, he and his ten-year-old daughter, Lola, have avoided cars altogether, relying solely on bikes for transportation.
For the past year now Ozzy’s life has been about survival, putting one foot in front of the other, and trying to be the best father he can be, though even he knows that to be the best dad for Lola he needs to step out of his comfort zone which is what prompts Ozzy to join Cielo Aviation as a mechanic, where his path crosses with Maren in an unexpected and undeniable way. What starts as a slow and cautious connection soon becomes something more, but their love story isn’t without complications. Between Ozzy’s lingering grief, trying to balance Lola’s emotional wellbeing and meaning but over involved in-laws, Ozzy and Maren need to try and navigate some uncharted terrain if they have any hope of making their new found relationship work…
From No where was a beautiful read, this book true to Jewels style was a deeply moving and emotionally touching read. This is the second book in the the Wildfires series and like the first book this packs a punch in the feels, let me just warn you now there are definitely going to be a few tears here and there while reading this book. In saying this, I do have to say that I really enjoyed reading From Nowhere, we get to dive right into exploring the emotions and feelings that come from loving after a loss, dealing with grief and the prospect of a second chance at love, all in all this book really packs a beautiful emotional punch from start to end.
Both main characters in this book were so well written and so easy to relate to as we got to see their journey unfold. For our leading lady Maren, well she was a strong, independent woman with a sharp wit and a guarded heart. As an air tanker pilot, she thrives in high-risk situations and having to think fast without second guessing yourself, but when it comes to emotions and matters of the heart well here she struggles. One of the things that I really liked about Maren was how real she came across, while she cares for Ozzy she never wanted to fix him or take the place of Lola’s mother, she simply wanted to find her place in their world and bring what happiness that she could into their lives. As for our hero, well my heart really broke for Ozzy, his love his his late wife are never questioned and never should be, this man loved hard, so much so that he really never stoped grieving. And in doing so has resulted in him building a wall around his heart, this only made getting to see his story unfold all the more rewarding. His love for his daughter is undeniable, and his fear of making mistakes is palpable, if anything this only endured me to him all the more. His struggles with his in-laws, who believe he should remain devoted to his late wife, add another layer of depth to his journey and really broke my heart in many ways.
I loved the connection between Maren and Ozzy, there romance was far from a perfect whirlwind love story, their journey was real and raw and painful and that is what made it so beautiful to read. This couple was not all sunshines and rainbows, we got to see the deeper more painful side to love and allowing someone into your heart but also all the beauty that comes with this journey. I really loved that their relationship was built on more than good chemistry, they shared a mutual respect and understand for each other and this is largely what made their relationship beautiful.
From No where is a beautifully written second chance love story, this book packs the emotional punch but in the best way possible. If you are looking for a beautifully crafted love story about love, loss and the importance to have courage to embrace the future then this is definitely the book for you!
