From Wedding Fling to Baby Surprise by Nina Singh Laney chose a different path from the rest of her 
family. She ended up buying and running a popular night spot called Carpe D. She works hard and that has paid off with success. One night when staff is short handed, Laney steps in to serve drinks. She meets a very attractive Italian man who is by himself. They strike up a conversation. Before you know it, she has Gianni Martino being her plus one for her sister’s upcoming wedding. Laney’s boyfriend has broken up with her and she will never hear the end of it if she attends the wedding on her own.
As the title suggests, Laney and Gianni have instant sparks and think what could a short fling hurt? As the title also suggests, there are unintended consequences from their fling. That is truly unexpected, but Laney can handle it. What she can’t handle is the secret Gianni has kept from her from the very first night they met.
Laney is a strong, hard-working woman. You have to admire her drive and work ethic. At the same time, you can feel sorry for her lack of success in the romance department. The author slowly reveals events that have shaped her over time.
At first, I didn’t care for Gianni. He was wrong to keep the secret of his intentions from Laney for so long. Yes, he is portrayed as very good-looking and charming. There are too many men out there who hide secrets that could certainly impact relationships over the long term. His father comes across as way too overbearing. Rich men often seem to be willing to go to great lengths to get what they want. It took a long time for me to warm up to Gianni.
The main tension in the story seems to revolve around what Laney and Gianni intend to do about the future. That thread certainly occupied most of the last part of the book.
If you are looking for a story with some Italian touches mixed in with some sizzle then From Wedding Fling to Baby Surprise is the novel for you. I look forward to more tales from Nina Singh in the future.
