Last Night Was Fun by Holly Michelle: Emmy has built her career on data, discipline and doing everything twice as well just to be taken half as seriously as the men in her department. As one of the few women in the analytics department of a pro baseball team, she doesn’t have time or luxury for distractions, especially not when they come in the form of the infuriatingly charming Gabe, her office rival and now her competition for a long overdue promotion! Though things take a strange turn for Emmy when she receives a random “Last night was fun” text. Now normally she would not indulge in such a random act of continuing the conversation with a complete stranger but strangely Emmy finds herself drawn into the witty banter and flirty exchanges with someone that finally truly gets her… even if she has never meet the guy… which is why she invites him to be her plus one for her sisters destination wedding in Mexico. Expecting to meet her mystery texter and have some kind of cute vacation romance, Emmy is a slightly more than surprised to learn that her mystery guy is non other than Gabe! As sparks fly both on-screen and off, Emmy and Gabe have to figure out if their online chemistry can translate to something more than a office rivalry…

Yes, please!! This book was just perfection! Last Night Was Fun is exactly what I love about all things romcom, a fun and catchy flirty banter filled enemies to lovers romance that just kept giving! If you like books by Christian Lauren and the movie You Got Mail then you are definitely going to love this book! The slow burn connection between Emmy and Gabe is sure to hook you in and keep you wanting to see what happens next with this couple.

I really liked Emmy, not only was she determined and headstrong but she was crushing it as a sports analyst in a largely male dominated work environment. While for the most part she was really loveable, I will say that she was quick to jump to conclusions and judge. This really made me enjoy getting to see her journey unfold, getting to see Emmy learn to trust people and give them the benefit of the doubt before rushing to judge was a slow but rewarding process. I have to say I also really liked getting to see her realise that just because she might not be the best at something does not make it a weakness, she really learned how to be more tolerant to herself and allowed herself to grow as a person. Gabe was the definition of don’t judge a book by its cover, on the outside he gives of the cool guy vibes but the more we got to know him the more we got to see that he is also trying to overcome his own shortfalls. I really liked getting to know Gabe and getting to see him become more assertive and vocal. We get to see him move away from being a people pleaser and into someone that stands up for what they want and voices his opinion.

I just ate up all the work place rivalry that we got between Emmy and Gabe, these two had that tension build up down to perfection. Though their anonymous text message exchanges is what really stole the show. I loved getting to see them open up to each other through their texts and really show their playfulness, vulnerability and trust without having to worry about coming across as needy or over the top. The fact that they built this trust and connection without even really knowing who the other was, was really what allowed them to fully connect.

Michelle delivered a brilliant debut novel with Last Night Was Fun, if this book is anything to go by then I can already say that she is going to be one of my go to authors. If you are looking for a cute, slow burn, enemies to lovers, work place romcom that is filled with banter, laughs and so much of heart then this is definitely the book for you!

Emmy Jameson lives by three no dating, no sharing personal news at work, and baseball above everything. As the only female data analyst for a professional baseball team, Emmy is constantly trying to prove herself.

Especially when she’s put up for a senior analyst position against her arrogant, infuriating coworker Gabe Olson. Sure, he’s gorgeous and smart and he was a baseball star in college who knows the sport inside and out, but so does Emmy. She is not going to lose to him again. There will be no distractions this summer. Not even her sister’s pending destination wedding in Mexico for which she needs to find a plus one.

But then she receives a text from an unknown number with a simple “Last night was fun.” When she strikes up a conversation with the mystery texter, they realize that he was given a fake phone number after a bad date that just so happened to be Emmy’s. Despite her rules, Emmy can’t deny the instant connection she feels and soon finds herself falling for the stranger on the other side of the screen…and inviting him to her sister’s wedding.

Emmy’s world turns upside down when her mystery man turns out to be none other than Gabe Olson. They are left having to travel to the wedding together while trying to sort out which version of their relationship is their in-person rivalry or the deep connection they found in their messages.
