Game On (Last Bachelor Standing) by Nancy Warren: Adam, Max and Dylan have been best friends since they were five years old. Now, thirty years later, they are still close and celebrating Adam’s 35th birthday at a party being given by Adam’s parents. All three men remain single and are successful in their on right. Adam is a police detective, Dylan is a firefighter and Max is a billionaire businessman. They continue to play amateur hockey together, very hopeful that this cold3year they will win the league championship. Unfortunately, during the past two hockey seasons, Adam choked when the team was on the verge of winning, and as a result, the team has never won a championship. So Max asks his friend Serena, an extremely successful performance coach, to help Adam with his performance issues.

Because Adam and Serena are both control freaks, they do not hit if off immediately. But once one of Serena’s suggestions work, Adam sees the light and begins to let her help him. In addition, they are attracted to each other and after sharing a mind-numbing kiss, realize their relationship is more than just professional. Their time together becomes even more involved when Serena discovers that she is being stalked. Overnight, Adam becomes Serena’s protector, lover and savior. Even with her life being in constant danger, Serena is finding it difficult to give up her tidy, controlled, lifestyle and allow Adam and his colleagues to help her. She has always taken care of herself and for the first time, someone else has the reigns.

I am uncertain as to why this book is part of the Harlequin Blaze line. From the book blurb, I thought it would be an upbeat read, focusing on winning a bet and getting the girl. Although the book is hot and sexy, it is also chock-full of uncertainty and angst, so much so that I had to put the book down on more than one occasion to calm my uneasiness. I am not a fan of the romantic suspense genre. With that said, the plot is good and the last twenty pages are spine-tingling, in both a positive and exciting way. The story moves along at a nice pace, and the characters are both interesting and likeable. The passion between Serena and Adam is steamy and with every moment they share, their feelings evolve from lust to love.

If you are in the mood for a suspenseful romance that is well conceived and hot, look no further than Game Over. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
