Going the Distance by Jennifer Fusco: Mike is a middleweight boxer who is Going-the-Distanceon the verge of the biggest fight of his career. His only goal is to stick to his training regimen to ensure he’s physically and mentally prepared for this fight. Ava is a sports reporter who is known for reporting on the scandals and excesses of athletes. She’s looking for the story that will elevate her career and her gut tells her that Mike has just that story.

The last thing Mike wants is a reporter digging around in his life, especially this sexy redhead. He prefers to keep his life private, especially his past and childhood. He comes to reconsider the wisdom of cooperating just in time for Ava to tag along while he drives from Vegas to New York for the fight.

A smile crept across Ava’s face. “Really? That’s fantastic.”
Intense dread filled him. “Don’t get too comfortable riding shotgun. You get your story, and you’re back in Vegas quicker than Jack Brady’s right hand.”

The road trip tests them both. Ava is determined to find her story and get Mike to trust her enough to reveal his secrets. Mike is just as determined to provide only so much information and nothing that would jeopardize the career he loves or the gym where he trains. The road trip forces them to get to know each other and makes it difficult to fight their chemistry. Ava tests his self-control and Mike challenges her to see athletes differently.

“It’s a far cry from the Best Rate, isn’t it?”
His face split into a smile. “We started the day in your version of Hell and ended up in mine.”

Going the Distance is an entertaining battle of wills. Jennifer Fusco created interesting characters who have lessons to learn. Ms. Fusco provides great secondary characters in a gym that is more like family. Fans of Jeanette Murray and Jennifer Snow will enjoy Going the Distance.
