Happy Endings by Thien-Kim Lam: Getting dumped sucks big time, especially when it happens via post-it note, but if anything it only motivated Trixie Nguyen even more to prove that her sex toy business is going to be a rip roaring success! This is exactly how Trixie finds herself moving to Washington, with her very first sex toy pop up event getting of to an amazing start the very last thing Trixie expected was to run into post-it note guy. As it would turn out the restaurant that is hosting Trixie’s pro-self pleasure pop up belongs to non other than Andre Walker.
Mama Hazel’s is the last thing that Andre has left of his mother, with the soul food restaurant in dire need of a lifeline. With this in mind Andre has little to no choice but to try a very new approach to bringing in new customers or he will be forced to close the doors on his mother’s beloved soul restaurant, he just never thought it would involve hosting sex toy parties hosted by non other than his ex girlfriend. The question is will these two be able to put their own hurt hearts aside in order to work together to achieve both of their dreams?
When I read the synopsis of Happy Endings I was instantly sold on this steamy little read! Second chance romances are always a favorite of mine but with the added element of such a steamy plot and this novel had the making of a golden read. I loved that both main characters had such well developed backgrounds which helped make them more relatable.
Oh how I loved Trixie, a strong sex positive female lead that wanted to prove that even an unconventional occupation can be perfectly fulfilling. I really liked that she was so determined to prove to her parents that she could make her sex toy business a success. But gosh did my heart break for Trixie, break ups suck at the best of times but to be dumped via post-it note is just cruel.
As for our soul food loving hero Andre, I really wanted to love him but I just felt that he kept pushing away the help offered by all his friends and family and he just kept this woe me attitude. However I really did like getting to see Andre grow as a character and open up to Trixie. I absolutely loved that both characters came from multiracial families. One of the major themes in this novel was family, and boy was there tons of family drama!
The only draw back in this novel for me was that the entire family drama got brushed over a bit too fast. I will say that Happy Endings was more of a women’s fiction read rather than a romance in my opinion, as the romance department was a tiny bit light.
I would recommend reading this novel if you are a fan of a steamy little read that shows following your heart is the best way to find your happiness.
