REVIEW: Hardest Fall by Juliette Cross

In Hardest Fall by Juliette Cross, Bone is a Seraph, who rarely uses her gift of song. Instead, she chose to become a fallen angel and now makes magical weapons, selling them to anyone who needs them. When demon hunter Xander is brought to her shop on the verge of death, she’s convinced to use her power to save him. Bone believes she’s neutral in the fights between the species, but Xander is convinced she’s on the side of good and becomes determined to make her see that. When the demon prince Rook demands she made a powerful weapon that could have consequences for everyone, Bone will finally have to decide which side she’s actually on.

This is the second book in the series, and it felt like it. I haven’t read the previous book so I felt like I was missing things, such as how Bone knew George, Xander’s cousin, and Dommiel, who brought Zander to her to be saved. Because of this, I would recommend reading the previous book in the series before this one.

Xander is able to see just who Bone is, even if she doesn’t recognize it herself. She constantly says she’s neutral, but he points out all the ways she’s really not. When she recognizes a young girl as being a Seraph, she takes her under her wing and teaches her how to be one. For someone trying to deny who she was, she never hesitates to use her powers to help. She’s strong and independent, but she’s also lonely.

I liked Xander and Bone together. I thought their relationship was developed well and I enjoyed their interactions with one another. I also enjoyed their interactions with their friends as they all work together to discover exactly why Rook wanted the weapon he requested.

If you enjoy paranormal romances, this book would be for you. It has a nice blend of romance and action. I’m looking forward to seeing what comes next for this series.

The tattooed demoness, Bone, doesn’t like anything except the magical weapons she makes. But she has hidden talents few know about. When I was brought to her near death, she used her Seraph song to manipulate flesh and bone to save me. But she wasn’t happy about it.

Now I must return the favor. Even though she refuses to take sides in the apocalypse, there’s one job she’s not willing to do for the demon prince Rook. If she doesn’t, her head will end up on a spike. Of course, there’s a good chance we’re all going to die anyway, but I will do anything to protect this fierce woman—and not just because she saved me.

So now we’re both off to kill a demon—or three—and possibly save the world.
