Headed for Trouble by Shiloh Walker: Neve is heading home and unsure of Headed-for-Troublewhat kind of reception she will get. It’s been nine years since she left to pursue her dreams, and she’s barely spoken to either her sister or brother in that time. She doesn’t even know how to go about mending that rift, much less explain what’s happened during those years.

She’s relieved to finally be home, but also surprised to see how much the town has changed. She doesn’t expect the bar to be run by a tall, sexy, charming, kilt-wearing Scotsman. Ian is a shock to her system after experience has made her wary of men. Ian was persuaded to leave Scotland in order to run the bar. He’s chosen to remain single after seeing how destructive love could be. His immediate and visceral attraction to Neve is different, and he’s more than ready to pursue her until he finds out who she is.

Fighting a grin, he continued, “I don’t give a bloody damn about your money. It’s just…”
Brannon appeared in the doorway, and Ian gave her an exasperated, pained smile, exaggerating it as her brother drew closer. “It’s just somewhat awkward. You see, your brother’s my best friend…and I don’t fancy having him try to shove his fist down my throat if he found out I’d had my hands all over you.”

While everything about Ian, including how she reacts to him, is different, Neve isn’t sure she’s ready for a relationship. She’s still looking over her shoulder while knowing that it’s only a matter of time before her past shows up. Ian can only guess at what’s haunting Neve, but he’s more than willing to be patient. When Neve finally reveals her past, shockwaves ripple through her family, friends, and Ian. Ian discovers a surprising connection and it makes him that much more sure that he has to protect her.

“I want to see you smile, and make you laugh, and hold you while I do it. If you’re not sure you’re ready for that, then you need to pull back. Now.”
She stilled and lifted her head. “We’re not having sex.”
“Not here? Or not ever?” If she said not ever, he thought he might cry. Just go to his knees and sob.

Headed for Trouble is a compelling, heartbreaking read that pulls you into Neve’s world. Shiloh Walker seamlessly weaves together the main story for Neve with the secondary stories for Neve’s siblings, Brannon and Moira. Ms. Walker provides great character development, engaging characters, and unique plot twists. Fans of Jennifer Probst will enjoy Headed for Trouble.
