Heart of a Texan by Charlene Sands: Is it ever okay to keep a secret? Like a big one? Maybe one that is your entire identity? Or at least your birth name and background?

Francesca Isabella Forte aka Bella Reid believed that is, at least it is when you are protecting the most important thing in your life. For her daughter she would do anything, and yes that does include keeping her true identity from the man she was falling in love with. That doesn’t mean she was going to be able to keep her heart from him.

Jared Stone didn’t think about secrets, he refused to believe they existed. He had been burned before and therefore if anyone kept anything from him they were gone. He just couldn’t handle it. Instead he just kept helping his family and taking more and more risks with his life. Even after he almost dies when his car catches fire, then his angel steps in.

Jared’s angel may not be who he thinks she is, but one this is for certain, she is chipping away at his shell little by little. However when his shell is broken and the truth comes out, will Jared ever be able to trust again?

This book is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone and is a good one at that. Ms. Sands has a way of drawing in the reader and making them feel a part of the Stone family. Where as most authors tend to focus on the heroine, Ms. Sands has used this novel to really work on the Stone family and in doing so has given her readers an interesting perspective that will have you craving more of her works. She has a way of making her characters work into your head and have you understanding more of their whys then your own. While the ending was a tiny bit rushed overall this was a wonderful novel.
