Her Christmas Future by Tara Taylor Quinn: Olivia was only twenty-one when she married Martin and he was ten years older. She became pregnant fairly soon after they were married. Unfortunately, the baby was premature and had other medical problems. Their little girl, Lily, never made it out of neonatal intensive care and home with them. The baby’s death and some things Olivia learned about her reproductive organs shattered them both and eventually they divorced. It didn’t help that Martin seemed to travel even more after their loss and left Olivia on her own too much.
It has been nine years since the split. Martin has continued to succeed in his career and Olivia has become a neonatologist so she can help other mothers have better outcomes. She and Martin have stayed in touch to a certain extent. Thinking there should be no problem, they throw caution to the wind and spend a night of passion together. Unfortunately, there are consequences and a truly unexpected pregnancy occurs. Should Olivia take a morning after pill since she knows that she cannot sustain a full-term pregnancy or maybe there are other options available?
I really liked the different twist of the premise of this engaging novel. The characters have to deal with more than a possible second chance. Martin has always been concerned about the age difference. Olivia has always been concerned that a good part of the break-up was not just the death of child, but neither being able to give up the careers that kept them from having a truly close relationship.
Olivia had to be brave to make some of the choices she did after she found out she was probably pregnant. I was a little irked at times with Martin while he waffled over some of the decisions he had to make.
With a little steam mixed in, this is ultimately a story of forgiveness, redemption and love. Although Her Christmas Future is #7 in a series it is a fine on its own. Author Tara Taylor Quinn is a prolific writer for Harlequin and MIRA. It is not surprise that she has won many awards and sold millions of books. Her writing style is superb and I look forward to more new novels in the future.
