REVIEW: Ivy’s Fling With the Surgeon by Louisa George

Ivy’s Fling With the Surgeon by Louisa George: Dr. Ivy is now the Head of General Surgery at Sydney Central Hospital. She has good friends that have helped her through a bad break-up with a longtime boyfriend after she found he was cheating on her. She is 39 and not really looking for another relationship.

All caution is thrown to the wind when she starts to work with Dr. Lucas, a reconstructive plastic surgeon. They work well on a very difficult case. She is surprised when he asks her to pretend to date him until after a gala ball so he can get his family to quit harping on him about finally settling down. He is 41, but has only had a long string of very short term relationships.

Ivy agrees to the ruse and is surprised by the adventures he supplies to make days off fun. It doesn’t take long for the sparks between them to burst into flames. Can they walk away after the ball?

It was well done that the author slowly revealed why Lucas was haunted by a past tragedy and not willing to completely move on. The passionate scenes start very early in this novel and continue throughout. There is also a mixture of adventure that gets the adrenaline flowing for the two main character and this reader. The medical parts are very well researched and authentic. As always, I learned new things.

It is encouraging to me that authors are using more mature characters and not just young ones. Of course, those with experience in the medical field can’t be twenty somethings.

I am always impressed that different writers can write a series of interconnected tales. From reading some of Ms. George’s notes, it helps that they seem to know each other. Although the setting is Sydney, Australia, many of the issues explored are universal.
This is the second novel in the four part series. I wasn’t paying attention and read it before the first.That one is next on my list. I look forward to books #3 and #4, too.
