Just for the Plot by Meghan Quinn: She sees him as her best friend’s little brother. He’s been waiting years for her to see him as something more. Add a romance book club, baseball, and a whole lot of tension… and we have a problem.

JUST FOR THE PLOT by Meghan Quinn was a spicy sports romcom!

Bower was such a fun heroine. She’s direct, unapologetic, passionate about books, and completely comfortable being herself. I loved seeing her pursue her dream of opening a book truck. And Bennett? This man was DOWN BAD. He has been quietly carrying this crush for years, and watching him finally get the opportunity to show Bower exactly how he feels was one of my favorite parts. He’s patient, supportive and completely secure in what he wants. And yes, a professional baseball player who genuinely loves romance novels.

The chemistry between Bower and Bennett was the slow-burn highlight for me. Their age gap and the fact that he’s her best friend’s younger brother give Bower plenty of reasons to fight the attraction, while Bennett is basically waiting patiently for her to catch up. Watching her slowly stop seeing him as the kid she remembers and start recognizing the man standing in front of her made the buildup so much fun. I loved the romance book club because it gave Bower and Bennett another way to connect while also creating some genuinely fun conversations. There were so many moments where I was laughing, swooning, and waiting for these two to finally stop fighting what was obviously happening.

The Gladdy Daddies also deserve their own shoutout. Their group chats brought so much humor and personality to the story.

Tropes & Vibes
⚾️ Baseball romance
💕 Friends to lovers
🔥 Best friend’s brother
💘 He falls first
🥹 He falls HARD
⏳ Slow burn
📚 Romance book club
👩‍❤️‍👨 Age gap
🏙️ Forced proximity
😂 Found family & hilarious friends

JUST FOR THE PLOT gave me the kind of slow burn where the waiting was half the fun. Bennett’s years-long pining, Bower’s gradual realization that he’s not just her best friend’s little brother anymore, the book club, the banter, and the hilarious friend group all made this such a fun addition to the Bay Area Players series.

QOTD: What’s your favorite kind of romance-book hero—the golden retriever, the grumpy guy, or the hopelessly devoted yearner?

They’re just friends.

At least, that’s what she thinks. Him? He has other plans.

Bennett Brinkman is San Francisco baseball’s golden boy―focused, disciplined, and very bad at ignoring the one woman he shouldn’t want. Falling for his sister’s best friend was inevitable, even though she’s always seen him as safe, familiar, and firmly off-limits.

Bower knows exactly why wanting Bennett is a terrible idea. She’s fiercely loyal to her best friend and well aware that crossing this particular line could blow everything up. But when she moves into Bennett’s apartment building, that “just friends” boundary begins to blur in the most tempting ways.

The banter comes fast.

The sparks come faster.

And pretending it’s “no big deal” is getting ridiculous.

As feelings get messier and attraction turns undeniable, Bennett and Bower must decide if risking their family ties is worth chasing the love that’s been in front of them all along.
