Last Mission by Lisa Childs is the twelfth and final book in the Hotshot Heroes series. While it can work as a standalone, I recommend reading them in order to see how the saboteur has escalated his attacks through the series.

Mack McRooney is retired from military special forces, but has agreed to join the hotshots to help his brother-in-law discover who the saboteur is. One of his suspects if Wynona Wells.

Wynona is the state trooper investigating the attacks against the hotshots. After her training officer was arrested, all the hotshots look at her with suspicion. All Wynona wants is to get justice for the hotshots, even if it means pairing up with the man who suspects her the most.

As their investigation escalates, it becomes clear that Wynona has become a target. Mack moves from being suspicious of her to being protective. But Wynona refuses to cower, and stands side by side with Mack, determined to bring an end to the attacks, even if it means getting hurt in the process.

Fans of romantic suspense will enjoy this one, as it’s filled with twist and turns that will have readers glued to their seats as they wait to finally discover who has been sabotaging the team. I have read all the books in the series, and I can honestly say that throughout the series, I had no clue who the saboteur was. I enjoyed that the author didn’t make it obvious to the readers and saved the big reveal until the end.

Readers familiar with the series once again get to see plenty of familiar faces, and they get to learn more about Wynona and Mack, both of whom have made appearances throughout the series. Last Mission wraps up the series nicely, and I’m sad to see it come to an end.

Book Info:

Publication: August 20, 2024 | Harlequin Romantic Suspense | Hotshot Heroes #12

Mack McRooney is retired from military special ops, but he must take on one final mission to catch the saboteur targeting his brother-in-law’s firefighting team…even if that means becoming a firefighter himself. Partnering with state trooper Wynona Wells, however, was not part of the plan. Mack and Wynona must fight their fiery attraction to one another and a deadly saboteur. And if they lose this fight, they might also lose their lives…
