Let’s Make a Scene by Laura Wood: Thirteen years ago Cynthie walked away from the spotlight and from Jack, the boy who broke her heart without ever really
bothering to actually hold it. Now she’s back and ready to make her come back, this time older and wiser. Though she is a bit reluctant about signing on for the sequel for the movie that made them famous back in the day. While this could be Cynthie’s big break she cant help but worry about having to deal with Jack all over again, especially with the one studios one small catch… She and Jack have to fake a relationship for the cameras… and for the millions of fans still rooting for their story. Soon the scripted moments begin to blur with real feelings and old memories resurface… the question is can Cynthie actually trust Jack with her heart this time round, or are all his words sweet make belief?
Let’s Make A Scene was so much more than I had expected, this second chance romance was soft, sweet but also packs in a punch. I loved the fact that Wood gives us a romance that isn’t just about chemistry, but about timing, regret and the slow, uncertain work of trying again, especially when the cameras are rolling and the past won’t stay buried. Really the entire premise of this book was so my cup of tea, the combination of enemies to lovers, workplace romance and a touch of reality drama, just my kind of book and the more I read, the more I fell in love with Cynthie and Jack and their journey.
I really liked both main characters, there was no denying the connection that both Jack and Cynthie still shared and all the residual feelings that lingered between them. I have to say that I really liked Cynthie, she may come across as all sharp edges but she is actually lost and trying to find herself again. I found her very relatable and enduring, we get to see her try to work through burn out and learning to deal with the pressures that come with working in the industry. While she uses sarcasm and wit as her armour, we get to see that Cynthie is actually full of heart and love and she just needs to find her way again. Jack was a complex and loveable character, I loved getting to see him peel back his public persona to reveal his true raw self while being with Cynthie. I really liked getting to see him opening up to Cynthie and slowly letting down the walls that he had built to protect himself. We really get to see his journey of redemption and trying to figure out how to make it up to Cynthie for not being there for her when she needed him the most.
The thing that I loved the most about this couple was not only do they learn to allow themselves to be vulnerable but getting to see them learning that true love is in the small gestures, in showing up rather than making demands. I loved the fact that after all this time and all their history they still see each other, while they might have taken a bit of time to allow old wounds to heal and walls to fall, they really did have an electric chemistry. I just ate up getting to see the slow shift between the choreographed and scripted moments which gave way to the real and raw passionate connection between these two.
Going from right person, wrong time, to finally, right person and right time, getting to following Jack and Cynthie as they worked their way to their very own happily ever after was just perfection. I loved every moment of this second chance, enemies to lovers, fake-dating/real love story and I would definitely recommend it!

When Cynthie Taylor gets her first real acting job, starring in a small British movie, she is over the moon. There is only one problem…Cynthie’s arrogant and annoyingly handsome costar Jack hates her, and the feeling is definitely mutual. While they may be at war behind the scenes, their on-screen chemistry is palpable, and the studio sees an opportunity—have the two young stars fake a romance that will charm fans and draw crowds.
Thirteen years later, Cynthie and Jack have successfully kept their promise to stay far away from one another, until a surprising offer comes to make a sequel to the cult classic that launched their careers. But there’s a catch: they must also rekindle their pretend relationship…and this time there’s a documentary crew following their every move.
Cynthie and Jack both desperately need this film to work, but can two ex-rivals ever really trust each other? And what happens when the roles they’re playing start to feel all too real?
