What happens in Goa doesn’t necessarily stay in Goa… especially when your vacation fling becomes your coworker.
LOVE BEYOND REASONABLE DOUBT by Swati Hegde was a slow-burn, second-chance romance about two lawyers who thought they could leave a steamy vacation
fling in the past, only to discover that their story wasn’t finished.
Naina Shetty has spent the last year putting her career first. She’s determined to earn her promotion and isn’t interested in another relationship after her painful breakup. Two summers ago, though, she gave herself permission to forget about work and spend a few days in Goa with a handsome stranger. No real names. No personal questions. No expectations. Perfect. Except Tejas Rajput never got the memo that he was supposed to forget her.
I loved the contrast between the Goa portion of their story and their lives back at the law firm. Their vacation gave them a chance to be completely different versions of themselves, while seeing each other again at work forces them to deal with everything they tried to leave behind. The law firm setting also adds plenty of professional pressure as they work together on a case that could have major consequences for their careers.
Naina was such an interesting heroine because her ambition isn’t just a character trait—it’s something she’s actively choosing. After what happened in her previous relationship, she’s determined not to let romance derail the future she’s working toward. I loved watching her wrestle with the possibility that wanting love doesn’t mean she has to give up the career and independence she’s fought so hard to build.
Tejas was the perfect contrast. He’s charming and easygoing on the surface, but underneath that smile is a man who has been carrying his feelings for Naina for two years. I especially loved that he doesn’t simply give up when Naina tries to keep him at arm’s length. He knows what he wants, but he also has to prove that he’s serious about more than the chemistry they had in Goa.
The chemistry between Naina and Tejas was playful, flirty, and full of unresolved tension. I loved the fact that they already had history before becoming coworkers because every interaction comes with the knowledge that they’ve been there before. Tejas knows the woman Naina was in Goa, while Naina is trying very hard to convince herself that the woman she was back then has nothing to do with who she is now. Watching that attraction come back into focus while they’re trying to stay professional was so much fun.
LOVE BEYOND REASONABLE DOUBT was a fun second-chance romance with a great setup: two people who shared something unforgettable in Goa and then have to figure out what it means when they meet again at work. I loved Naina’s ambition, Tejas’s persistence, and the way their past keeps getting in the way of the professional boundaries they’re trying to maintain.

Naina Shetty is a proud workaholic, and she is gunning for a promotion at her law firm. No distractions will get in her way this time, not even the bad breakup that happened over a year ago. She brushed off her pain with a long vacation and a no-strings-attached fling with a handsome stranger, but now Naina is back to business.
Unlucky-in-love Tejas Rajput hasn’t stopped thinking about the brown-eyed beauty he met on the beaches of Goa two summers ago. He’d been looking for a rebound to get over his ex—which is why he’d agreed to keep things strictly casual, use fake last names, and respond to all personal questions with “wrong answers only.” But he didn’t think he’d fall for her, hard, only for her to get on a plane and leave.
