In Locked Down with the Army Doc by Scarlet Wilson, Dr. Amber Berkeley doesn’t date doctors, but there’s something about the man she’s just met at the hotel where she’s attending a conference. However, when disaster strikes Hawaii and the pair begin working together to help the injured, Amber knows she can’t ignore the intense chemistry she shares with Jack. Will Amber take a chance on Jack or will they lose their shot at happy ever after because Amber finds it hard to trust a man of her profession?
”Actually, my ambition this evening is not to meet anyone – I just wanted to grab a drink, some food and get out of here.”
He gave a slow nod. “Ah, great minds think alike, then.”
She looked a little more conciliatory. “Maybe. Sorry about the slap. Bar snacks make me testy. It really is an automatic reaction.”
He laughed. “How many states have you been arrested in?”
She sighed. “More than you could ever know.”
Every medical romance I read by Ms. Wilson just keeps getting better and better and I absolutely loved this book, as the heroine has a rule in that she doesn’t date doctors; the hero is sexy and smart and determined to win her over while they do their best to help Hawaii after a hurricane hits; the dialogue was highly entertaining and had me loving how the hero proves over and over again how he’s different than the heroine’s ex who deceived her; and the fast-paced plot drew me in immediately, as the heroine isn’t expecting to meet a man that entices her as much as Jack does.
With the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories, especially that of the heroine, as she’s never felt like she’s good enough. Yet, she’s worked hard to prove otherwise. However, the dialogue wasn’t all intense. Really, there’s some wonderful playful banter between these two that had me happy that Jack and Amber gave each other a chance. Furthermore, the heroine is resilient and courageous when it comes to the medical emergencies she has to deal with, even though she’s used to dealing with similar situations in working with the Disease Prevention Agency. However, the situation feels more risky and I liked that she was willing to do whatever it takes to help rescue and treat people. While the hero, he’s done a lot of good in his medical career and I could understand why he doesn’t want to a relationship after what happened to the one woman he cared so much about. I also liked his confidence and his determination to win the heroine over, especially since he’s good for her just like she’s good for him and they help each other to heal from the wounds of their pasts.
”Looks like I’m about to buy you dinner for the second time this evening.” He glanced toward the packed ballroom, then paused. “You okay with this?”
Her eyes scanned the ballroom too and she gave the briefest shake of her head. “I have the strangest feeling I might be in safe hands with you, Mr. Grumpy Scot. I think I can take the chance.” She laughed. “And to think, I took this position at the bar because you looked like the trouble in the room.”
As they headed towards the elevators, he couldn’t resist. “Honey, I’m more trouble than you could ever imagine.”
Overall, Ms. Wilson has delivered one of the best medical romances I’ve read lately where the chemistry between this couple was off-the-charts; the romance was delightful and sweet and special because there is so much chemistry between them; and the ending had me worried for the main characters because of what happens while they’re helping people, but left me completely satisfied as the hero realizes he can’t let the heroine get away. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up nicely, as the hero and heroine are so happy together and have the best of families. I would recommend Locked Down with the Army Doc by Scarlet Wilson, if you enjoy medical romances or books by authors Amy Ruttan, Amalie Berlin, Tina Beckett and Annie O’Neil.
