In Lone Star Nights: Cowboy Trouble by Delores Fossen, a death of a loved one brings two people together. When Dixie Mae dies, Lucky and her granddaughter, Cassie, have a dying wish to fulfill, but both parties could have never seen this wish coming.
Lucky McCord is a bull rider who has no trouble getting along with the ladies, except for one. Cassie Weatherall is used to turning Lucky down, even though deep down, she would love to take him for a ride, but knows heartache would follow. But when Cassie and Lucky learn what Dixie Mae’s dying wish is, they have no choice but to lean on each other.
Turns out Cassie and Lucky need to take custody of a couple of kids. No one knew Dixie Mae was taking care of the two girls, but now that she’s gone, it’s up to Cassie and Lucky to be there for them. It’s definitely going to be an adjustment period for everyone involved because Cassie and Lucky have no idea how to take care of an adorable four year old and her thirteen year old sister, who’s mad at the world.
I loved how much Cassie and Lucky loved Dixie Mae. They both were very fond of her and would give anything to have her back. The best they can do is to honor her wish by taking care of Mackenzie and Mia until they can locate their next of kin. But the longer they are all together, the harder it will be to let go.
Both Cassie and Lucky are carrying around emotional baggage. They both blame themselves for situations that they had no control over, and it’s up to them to help each other, let go of the past and make a brighter future. The longer they are together, the more the lines blur. Cassie is changing Lucky and he’s starting to feel out of sorts. He realizes he wants more from her but she’s acting like it’s just sex between them. Will they figure out that their little make shift family is perfect for them before it’s too late?
“Yeah, he’d been a player most of his life, but for the first time, that was starting to wear thin. Maybe he was looking for more than being just a bull rider/ player/screw-up after all.”
There were a few humorous moments in this book specifically, when Dixie Mae’s last will gets read that will have you laughing at loud. Each character was enjoyable and made for a good story. I’m really looking forward to reading about Logan’s story next, but overall, Lone Star Nights was well-written and entertaining. The cover alone will have fans buying this book solely on that. If you enjoy your heroes to be of the bad boy variety but have a heart of gold, this book is for you!

No strings attached is pretty much Lucky McCord’s calling card in Spring Hill, Texas, but when family is on the line, this cowboy’s honor and heart are about to get lassoed, tied and branded
Every family needs its black sheep, and Austin “Lucky” McCord is happy to oblige. The bad-boy bull rider lives fast and loose, until his business partner leaves him an unexpected bequest. Suddenly Lucky is sharing custody of two children with Cassie Weatherall, one of the few homegrown women he hasn’t bedded. And not from lack of trying…
Cassie fled her messy past to become a celebrity therapist in LA. So why does it feel so right to come back and share parenting duties—and chrome-melting kisses—with a man she’s striven to avoid? Loving Lucky always seemed like a sure bet for heartache. But for this perfectly imperfect family, Cassie might just gamble with everything she’s got.

I’ve only read the prequel novella in this series, but (for a novella) it was a great start. I’m gearing up to read Texas on my Mind and then this one. Thanks.
