Lost in Little Havana by Caridad Pineiro is the first book in the South Beach Security series. When Detective Trey Gonzalez is shot and his partner, Doug, was killed, Detective Roni Lopez is approached by Internal Affairs Department. They’re convinced Doug was a dirty cop and Roni has her own doubts about him because right before he was killed, she had seen Doug meeting with a person she suspected was involved in her human trafficking case. Trey, however, is not convinced his partner is guilty and is determined to uncover the truth. Roni, a long-time friend of Trey’s family, agrees to help him while keeping IAD at bay.

With the help of Trey’s family, most of which work at the family business, South Beach Security, Trey and Roni engage in a dangerous mission to uncover the truth. There’s more at stake than anyone realizes, and they are determined to figure it out before anyone else gets hurt.

The book is fast-paced with plenty of action. The author does a good job of balancing the romance and the suspense; neither overshadows the other. The characters are well-written and engaging, and the author will keep readers on their toes trying to figure out who really was the dirty cop.

If you enjoy romantic suspense, the friends-to-lovers trope, and enjoy stories with meddling, yet well-meaning family members, this would be a book for you. I thought it was a good start to the new series, and I’m looking forward to seeing what comes next.
