REVIEW: For The Love of Magic by Janet Chapman

In For The Love of Magic by Janet Chapman, we get Rana and Titus Oceanus’s magical story. We have met Rana and Titus in previous Spellbound Falls books, but For The Love of Magic gives us a close up look at a couple who have been married for 40 years.

for-the-love

Rana has left Titus, moving into a small home she’s bought on the shores of the Bottomless Sea. Titus is baffled, he has no idea why Rana has left him. The reader actually has no clue why she’s left him either, except to say Rana needs some time on her own to sort through some issues – away from the loving, overprotective, somewhat controlling Titus.

Titus is a god…(literally!). He created and sank Atlantis, and works for the betterment of mankind. He’s fought battles, and winning Rana back might be the one battle, the closest to his heart, that he’s terrified of losing. Rana is mortal, she has no magic, but she knows what she wants and how to go about getting it! Titus surprises Rana and begins trying to woo her back to him, very obviously and lovingly trying to do what she wants. Both Titus and Rana have secrets, secrets that should be told at least to each other, that will affect their family and their future together. They’ll have to trust in their love for each other to find their way back together. Rana is not just sitting around pining for Titus though, she has a couple of community projects she’s helping on, cleaning up her new home, learning to drive, and has taken up metal work! For Titus, the plot thickens when a colony of people living close by decide to create a new god. Titus and his sons are soon drawn into this when there is a demonic battle, threatening protesters, and someone new to save and protect.

Rana and Titus are going to have to open up the lines of communication and be honest with each other if they want to get back what they had and make it even better. The secrets they are each harboring will either make or break them!

Janet Chapman writes her Spellbound Falls series with a great blend of magic and reality, making the stories all the more believable. Rana and Titus are both very strong characters whose presence we’ve seen before, but in For The Love of Magic we really get to know them. Titus and Rana both love each other, and they are very easy to love. Both of them have big hearts, and even though Rana isn’t a goddess or in possession of magic, she does a lot for the good of mankind too. I loved Rana and Titus’s courtship, and even though they were apart they were still loving and respectful of each other. And it was a little amusing how clueless Titus was about Rana’s feelings!

I also liked For The Love of Magic because we are reading about a couple who have been together for years! They have an established relationship and love, but their are still very realistic problems that they are going to have to work on.

We saw a lot of all of the characters from the other Spellbound Falls books. I liked catching up with everyone and meeting a few new people, but it was overwhelming at times trying to put everyone and their stories together. At times the pages were a little too crowded, but I liked that Rana and Titus’s story was told and through the secondary characters we get a glimpse of what might be to come.

If you’ve read the rest of Janet Chapman’s Spellbound Falls stories I’d recommend For The Love of Magic. I honestly think you need to read the previous stories first to get the full impact of For The Love of Magic, and to lessen the confusion from all the other characters and past stories. For The Love of Magic was a fun read with my favorite mix – romance, magic, and protective, loving men!!

New York Times bestselling author Janet Chapman welcomes you back to Spellbound Falls, where love and magic can conquer anything…

After forty years of marriage, Rana Oceanus has done the unthinkable and run away from her mighty, magical husband. Not that she ran very far, having purchased a house in Spellbound Falls right on the shore of the Bottomless Sea, where she intends to prepare for the scariest battle of her life. The only flaw in her plan, however, is that she is still very much in love with Titus…

Shocked and deeply shaken that his wife really has left him—though he still can’t fathom why—Titus sets out to win her back. But when grand gestures of his esteem don’t seem to further his cause, he conjures up some of his original courtship magic to capture the heart of the beautiful young maiden all over again.

Then his plan takes a dangerous turn when Titus discovers that dealing with demons is far less threatening than the little secret his very mortal wife has been keeping from him…
