Love Story by Lindsey Kelk: Growing up in a family full of publishers, one would think that Sophie being the newest hit romcom writer would be a total dream come true… well it would be if only Sophie felt confident enough to share with her snotty literary scholar parents that she is the writer behind the new steamy erotic novels that have taken the market by storm.
For now Sophie is content with hiding behind her day job as a small town school teacher, well that is until a weekend at home to celebrate her fathers 60th birthday puts Sophie in the hot seat. Not only does she wind up having to share the one bedroom cottage with know-it-all Joe Walsh but she has to ask him for help when her bag with the manuscript of her new novel goes missing! Forced into tight confines with a big secret between them the question is can Sophie trust Joe?
Love Story was a pretty cute read, this book had promise to become a great read but personally I felt that it didn’t quite reach its full potential. While an enjoyable book with easy to like characters and an interesting story, I couldn’t help but feel that there was something missing. Nevertheless I will say that I enjoyed reading Love Story, there is just something about the insta love trope that if done right is a winner for me. One thing that I did like about this book was the fast pace and sassy dialogues. There was never a dull moment or a part that felt it dragged on.
I loved the insta hate to love relationship between Sophie and Joe, these two really kept the banter and sass alive throughout the book. I loved getting to see the build up of their relationship, from getting off to a terrible start to slowly getting to know each other and trying to fight the chemistry between them. Both Joe and Sophie were really nice and easy to like main characters. I enjoyed getting to see the dynamic between not only them but also how they were with their families. While there were a few moments that Joe had me questioning if his motives were really pure or if he was going to out Sophie and her book, but ultimately I liked that he was there for her and supported her journey.
All in all I enjoyed reading Love Story, this book had an interesting and playful take on the insta hate turned insta love trope. If you are looking for a light and easy read with a bit of spice then I would definitely recommend this book!
