Midnight by Sharon Sala: It’s hard to describe much about the beginning of MIDNIGHT without spoilers. Suffice it to say that a terrible
One night about midnight, a good neighbor hears a gunshot and rushes to Jacob’s to see if he is alright. He is lying on the floor bleeding from a gunshot wound. Pearl calls 911 and Jacob is rushed to the hospital in critical condition. All three sons are contacted. They drop everything and rush to their father’s bedside in ICU. They will stay in their home town Crossroads until he recovers. They also want to find who and why someone shot their father in what appeared to be an attempted robbery.
Nora Borden has come back to Crossroads to take care of family business. She is a top tier computer tech. She and Asher were together during high school and things changed as they moved forward with life. They run into each other at the hospital and catch up. They work together to solve why Jacob was shot. They both having demanding jobs. Can they have a second chance despite all the obstacles?
Pearl has a very pivotal role in the plot between saving Jacob’s life and discovering secrets from the past. She and all the other characters are fully fleshed out. The small town setting is one of my favorites.
I would have given this novel a even higher rating except there seemed to be too many unnecessary details and repetition. I didn’t read the first book in this series, but this one did very well as a stand alone. Sharon Sala is a very prolific author and has legions of fans. I have read some of them over recent years and have enjoyed the suspense and romance.
